I went to an aquarium store and bought black/gray gravel that goes in the bottom of aquariums and used it for an Iwo Jima display. Works great. With this scale it should be evern better..

Good tip.....

Woodland Scenics makes a black ballast that, once you grind it up some, works well for the black sand of Iwo Jima. Just place a small bowl of sulfur behind your display for the full IWO experience!
