I borrowed the missus' digital camera yesterday and grabbed a handful of soldiers from the shelf, stuck them on an old card table on the balcony and snapped my first toy soldier photo.

& A Call to Arms Confederate standing shooter.
REAR: Accurate Figures Union soldier cocking musket.

I have been painting these jokers for years and I am still only an amateur but it wasn't until I posted them here that I can view them close up and see all the imperfections.

Of course now that I know how to do it this thread could get very long and boring. :D

Nothing wrong with them, they look very nice . The Accurate figures have nice realistic poses and look excellent with some paint.

I agree with that statement !! and we look forward to seeing more of your collection, now you have a camera and are getting the hang of things :D

The paint job is great. Nice and neat. I like the "butter nut" uniforms as opposed to gray. One suggestion. The US issue canteens (also carried by the Confederates when they could get them) were covered in dark blue wool or brown-gray wool.

The light blue issue trouser wool was too expensive to waste on cateen covers. Reproduction canteens for reenactors have be covered by the dealers with light blue and folks started to think that this was correct. Painting the canteen a plain dull metal color would be right too.

Thanks for the kind words but the enlarged photos have shown up the spots where the original plastic colouring has been exposed. :D

Serves me right for not using an undercoat.

Thanks for the compliments and the tips. Unfortunately many of these were painted before any research was done.

Here's a pic I took last night:

Fall (Autumn) Confederate Camp at Dusk

Imex Union cavalry trooper with saddle, Confederate cavalry trooper with pitchfork
and Union artilleryman with bucket (with head conversion).
Ron Barszo log cabin and soldier carrying crate.
Accurate Figures Confederate guarding cabin.

That, sir..is a fine little scene. The camp figures from IMEX and some of the Barzso figures fit right in. A few brave Civil War reeanctors I know have built one of those cabins that sprang up in winter encampments. The roof was four issue shelter halves and any wood you couls find. They were and are surprisingly warm. I used the cavalryman with the pitchfork for an artillerymen with a hand spike. by removing the hay.

Thanks Scott. Not exactly a diorama I know, but then again it did only take me about 10 mins to set up. ;)

Very clever work there. I like it. :)

Coincidently I took a photo of some Confederate Artillerymen last night. Pic to come soon.

I take a photo on the missus' digital camera. The missus then takes her camera to work the next day and downloads the images to Photobucket on her work computer then emails the links to me on our home computer which I can then post here. Complicated I know but our home computer is dodgey.

Here's another attempt. I still need some work on camera effects and lighting. :(

Confederate Artillery Battery No.3

Great Job General. Welcome to the world of picture posting. I am very much enjoying your pictures Sir. Keep them coming!

Thanks Captain. Once I get the colour and lighting right on the camera there will be plenty more. :D

There are so many boxes in cupboards all over the place. It's a good excuse to utilise the many hundreds of soldiers, horses, cannon, fences, buildings, scenery etc. I have collected and painted over the last decade or so. :)

I hope to get better as I go along.

Cheers
Pete

General,

I like how you used the available IMEX and Accurate figures to show the variety of Confederate uniforms, and that you show one gun firing and one gun in the loading sequence.
