Hi All,

I got inspired to try my hand on this project. I'll develop it and see if eventually you all can guess as to it's intent.

Impossible! I'm scared of my wife and my two daughters run riot around me...:)

Here's the work up to this stage.

Moïse saved from the Nile by Pharaoh's daughter !?

No I had never seen that painting .
Really a big challenge . Hats off .

I know you are pulling my leg. It was too easy for you.

I had seen a great model made of it by David Catley, reproduced in MM mag and also in a small Blandford book. So mine will be a shadowbox diorama instead.

Some more progress on the arms. A lot of cutting and reshaping of the arms to try to fit the painting. So much work and there are ten more male figures to model!!!

I also took a top view of the baby. Can't get it any clearer - too small. Notice that the head of the musician is slightly larger to allow for false perspectives. The lute is made from a couple of plastic strips.

Starting to get interesting for me. I added the poles from brass tubing to the palanquin and further detailed all the pieces.

Attached the two maidens holding the baby.

I made the sphinx heads from 1/48 scale figures. These were carefully positioned in place on plastic struts and then I sculpt the ornament with putty.
The dress of the Princess is mostly sculpted. I broadened her shoulders as well.
Notice the back of the seat was given an additional part made from copper sheet.

The ladies bearing the baby were attached and sculpted together. The reed basket was given a final shape. I tried a new putty (cheaper) hence the darker brown colour.

The assembled cast of parts to make the rest of the scene.
Old Historex academic and Verlinden resin nudes. Very old and forgotten and being resuscitated here.

I'm now focused on constructing the palanquin. The seat appears to be supported by this sled structure.

The front tips of the sled were completed. More work was done on the pair carrying the baby. The musician had her neck shortened. I added one right leg to each of these women. I think that these may be visible when the diorama is completed.

The rest of the male wielding fans and palanquin-bearers were assembled. Notice that I have no qualms about mixing body parts - male, female, different makes etc. Loinclothes were added.

The palanquin was carefully assembled. First the feet was attached to the feet rest via a drilled pin and the four struts were carefully attached. Eposy resin was added to strategic joints. The struts are being detailed.

While waiting for other stuff to dry, I opened a drawer containing these pieces and sprayed a primer on these figures.

Victor,

I am a new comer to this thread, but having followed your link to the painting. I am very excited to follow your work on this piece as well!

Hi Louis,

Welcome onboard my paddywagon....

I decided to clean up the main figures. Redoing the palanquin which is a pain. Adding more struts to build up the sphinxes along the seat. Thickened up the skids.

The lute player head is being trimmed down. i have made another lute for her.

The two baby bearers are being redone as well.
