NAP0021-NAP0029 French Old Guard Grenadiers Pre-Order (1 Viewer)

Matt-
....After looking at Adkin's 'Waterloo Companion' for the hundreth time, I was thinking that any future British Highlanders will need some French infantry to drive back!

Noah
You mean to help the Guards drive back of course!!!!!:D:D

True, that could be a possibility. Ideally, what I was thinking of was if we did see some Highlanders, they could be displayed opposite the French line infantry to represent D'Erlon's attack. I like the idea of having one dio of the British Guards repelling the attack of either the French Guard Chaussers or some cavalry and having another dio with Highlanders (the alluded to 92nd perhaps?) stopping the French line attack on the east side of the Waterloo battlefield.

I am sure there are a number of Penninsular War battles where the British Guards and Highlanders fought side by side, battles that I am not real familiar with. Know anyone who could fill me in?:D

Yes, how much time do you have?:D Your assumption is quite correct BTW, they both were often right in the midst of the action, including (for the light companies) at my favorite, Fuentes D'Onoro.;):D They also both claimed battle honours for Fuentes D'Onor, Vittoria, Nive, the Peninsula and of course, Waterloo.

If we get the 92nd, I wonder if we could also get Wellington leaping into their midst to flee his French cavalry pursuers at Quatre Bas?:D There is a nice painting of that on page 182 of Wellington's Regiments.

Hi Noah,
Thats what i was going to do with a the possible 92nd and also have them linking up with the Prussians . Hey maybe FL will produce a sub set of them shaking hands :)

No and no. Essentially, there are some oversights in our first release that we're addressing, particuarly as it relates to march attack figures. For example, in the initial release we only did a Voltigeur in March Attack in campaign dress (trousers and shako cover with no plume). One of the six figures will be a march attack voltigeur in full dress. Another new variant will be two more NAP0035 combinations - campaign dress and full dress with a different head. Still another variant will be the NAP0045 (or 46 - the one with the bare head) - everyone loves that sculpt but we've had many requests to put him in a normal shako as multiples of the bareheaded figure doesn't work very well. Things like this to add additional variety to make what is already a very comprehensive release even more comprehensive.

Best,

Matt
I know I am pushing things but any chance there is a casualty figure?

Sounds Great ! Now to save up more funds;) If anyone has been sitting on the fence with the French line release I can tell you they are a steal at $ 34.95 you won't be disappointed. I'm lucky enough to own them all except NAP035 somebody snagged em all up . Whomever it was I'd love to see your display as I'm sure its something to behold . Just something about the French Line in numbers they just look so **** cool. Gebhard

Yes that is an impressive line. He has more than I have British Guards but I am still building and will definitely add many from the second release. I hope to put them in a nice fat column "target".:D:D

I'm so glad you didn't sell em on ebay like you had threatened to. I just watched a group of FL British Guards on ebay sell they were as follows

NAP081 ,82 84 85X2 86, 87, 88, 90, 91X3, 92, 93,94, 95,96 ''''17 figures all together they sold for $972.11 . Not bad for something still being sold on FL's web site . ;)

Indeed, I was watching that one too in hope's of a bargain reinforcement but it soon went well beyond US retail so I will have to continue my more gradual acquisition program.:D

You know, I see an auction like that and I can't help but think of someone who doesn't really know much about this hobby. I mean, the buyer is obviously someone who really wants some high-quality miniatures, but yet they buy off Ebay because they probably don't know about First Legion's site? Too bad he couldn't save money and discover the best Napoleonic figure maker at the same time. It is people like that who I think would really love to discover the hobby in general and places like this forum.

Well that may be Noah but they went for about 20% over book here which may be close to the difference in taxes for the UK. I seem to recall the import tax is 2.9% and the VAT is 17.5% so I am not sure how much they could have saved.

I too am eagerly awaiting the new re-release of the French Infantry. Although it may look like there are a lot of figures in my display, I am not finished. The arrangement is only two thirds done. I am especially looking forward to some of the new variations that Matt has announced. Having these will allow me to mix things up so it looks more realistic. I would love to see some wounded or dead figures at some future time. Must be patient.:)

Till they do come out, I am finding plenty of Prussians, Wurttemberg’s, and Old Guard figures to spend my money on. The trick to building large displays is simple you just have to buy something for it every month.

By the way: “HAPPY THANKGIVING” everyone.

Bill, that is very true. I hadn't thought of it like that.
