To follow up the release of our British 1st Foot Guards, we are now offering set NAP0072 British 9lb Foot Artillery Set and NAP0072G British 9lb Field Piece. The former comes with 6 crew, the 9lb Field Piece and accessories. The latter is just the field piece itself for those of you who want extra guns or who want to display unmanned field pieces between your squares (the gunners sheltering in the squares). Both are now available for Pre-Order with a ship date in the first half of March 2009.

Its about time someone had the foresight to come up with an option as such. Excellent news!!!

Matt could you tell us a little more about the general research you guys put into your artillery sets? How important is historical accuracy based for your cannon designs?

Best Regards, Octo.

Actually, this idea was specifically by customer request, so I can't take credit for it. We did a similar thing with our 8lb French Field piece and it has been pretty popular on it's own, so we decided to listen to the customer request and offer the 9lb British Gun on it's own as well.

Historical accuracy is of course very important to all of our products, not just our cannon designs. My partner does all of the research using a variety of source materials of various origins (french, german, russian etc...) and he collaborates extensively with various subject matter experts so that once we think we have it right, we run it past some knowledgeable folks to get feedback and make any final changes. We're obviously not above making the occassional mistake, but we do our best to produce products that are as historically accurate as they can be. Further, often in the compromise of historical accuracy versus production simplicity, we tend to make things hard on ourselves and fall on the side of historical accuracy.

I realize that you may have been looking for a more detailed answer, but my partner is the one who does all of our research and I'd rather not get overly specific about our source material.

Matt

It is a great idea. A nice suppliment would be to release a few gun crewman as individuals at some point for those that need to temper their purchases a wee bit. Beautiful pieces these are.

This gets a bit tricky. You never know what customers are going to buy and we run the risk of having a ton of stock on officer figures (for example) with no extra gunners or having foot crewman available with no guns left or other such combinations which we may not be able to sell. It's just easier to sell them as a nice self-contained set. The extra gun in my mind does provide for this to some extent because it allows a collector to buy the full set and then buy an extra gun and split the crew between them rather than buying 2 full sets.

Yes splitting up the gun crews will work after a fashion.;)

Matt,

Is it looking like you will still be able to meet the release date of March 20th for this outstanding new artillery set?

I believe so. It will either be Friday the 20th or Monday the 23rd I would say...
