First Legion is proud to present the Saxon Army of the Napoleonic Wars. After the French defeated the Prussians in 1806, the Kingdom of Saxony joined the Confederation of the Rhine, a coalition of German states which were essentially French satellites. Saxon troops fought bravely for the French up to the Battle of Leipzig when the king was deserted by his troops and Saxony fell under Prussian administration. Presented here are the Saxon Guard du Corps at Borodino, an elite and seldom produced heavy cavalry regiment. Resplendent in their yellow uniforms, these wonderful figures will make a very sought after addition to any serious Napoleonic toy soldier collection. We hope you enjoy them!

Amazingly done and impressively stunning. Hats off to you and your gallant crew Matt. A cavalry charge against the Russian Akhtyrsky/Soumsky Hussars will change the tides at Borondino.{sm3}{sm3}

Gebs, Please excuse my lack of historical knowledge....But are these Saxon horsemen allies of the French army or were they Prussian allies?:confused:...Thank you in advance for your response.

Saxony became part of the Confederation of the Rhine which was created by Napoleon when he conquered the German states. Thus they were allies of the French army and they fought very well especially in Russia until they defected to the other side at the battle of Leipzig. After the Congress of Vienna, Saxony became mostly part of Prussia...

Hi Frank,

In a word "French"

But since we are talking about the Saxon Guard du Corps unit reproduced with these splendid FL figures. I think its important that you know a little of their specific history. They were the most senior of the three Saxon Heavy Cavalry Regiments to fight during the Napoleonic wars and were the best of the best. They actually took the great redoubt at Borodino not French Cuirassiers. Even though they were almost totally wiped out in Russian only having 27 total men who returned, they were still credited with saving the Emperor from Cossacks during the retreat.

The Guard du Corps were not reformed until after the Napoleonic wars. But Saxon Heavy calvary did fight at the Battle of Leipzig which contained the Leib Kürassiere and the reformed Zastrows Kürassiere which were also wiped out in Russia. The Saxon Brigade that fought took a leading part in Murat's great cavalry charge at Wachau during the battle of Leipzig and after the Battle were down to 1/4 their former strength. In fact the Saxon Heavy Cavalry were the last unit to defect to the Allies on the 19th the day after the Battle, they were that Loyal.

If you are thinking of getting these, I can highly recommend them. Just wonderful figures from top to bottom, expertly researched, sculpted and painted. Regards Gebhard

Andana, I am enjoying your photos. Speaking of sides, I too am putting together a group of Saxons. Mine will be assaulting Russian infantry. So far I only have 2 Russians and the brilliant Saxon officer.

This discussion is the greatest reward for posting these pictures. Thank you very much.

I also appreciate the positive comments.
