Rob.

I knew that you would in the end.
The KGL (Kings German Legion) Rifles fought at Waterloo at La Haye Saint.

Have a look at this www.kingsgermanlegion.org.uk.

Hi Rob,

**** you! I was just about to go to bed!! I'm definately not as expert as some of the other guys here but K&Cs green guys are indeed German allies of Wellingtons, KGL (Kings German Legion). They fought hard at Waterloo, all day in defense of La Haie Sainte farmhouse in the middle of the field. They fought apparently until their ammunition ran out, then fought on keeping the French off the walls with bayonet and hand to hand fighting until they were almost wiped out. Only one officer and 42 men managed to withdraw out of 860. A good start to your collection.

Kiwi.

Bedfordshire Rob has turned to the dark side. Tsk, tsk....  :D

Those are men of a Light Infantry Rgmt. of the King's German Legion. They were troops raised from the German state of Hanover. George I was the Elector of Hanover when he was chosen to be the new King of England. So while Britian and Hanover remained separate states, they shared the same ruler. When the French occupied Hanover and merged it into the new Kingdom of Westphalia great numbers of angry men left looking for ways to stike back at Napoleon. Britain taking advantage of this raised a number regiments, both infantry and cavalry. Two of these regiments were light infantry and uniformed in green jackets. The KGL was a very hard fighting, dependable group of men probably some of Wellington's best. The KGL was heavly involved at Waterloo. The green jacket wearing light inf. were the heroic defenders of the farmyard of La Haye Sainte.

Yes, Rob, Mrs. Wilson and I want to know: "Why, Rob, why?"

Arnhem, we hardly knew ye!!!!

Its those Red uniforms Brad, standing strong against the French dictator!.(sorry again Ron!)But once the Arnhem stuff is up for order i fear the Napoleonic budget will dry up for a while;).

I am a lost soul Brad, on a sea of desire. The ship of restraint long since sunk by the torpedo of want.I am starting to witter nonsense now, must be getting hungry!

2nd KING’S GERMAN DRAGOONS at GARCIA HERNANDEZ 1812

During the Peninsular War at the Battle of Salamanca the pursuit was taken up by the KGL Dragoons led by Von Bock. They were to achieve lasting fame and the admiration of the Allied armies when, near the village of Garcia Hernandez, they attacked and destroyed French cavalry and several battalions of infantry in square. During the charge on a large square of elements of the French 6th Light Infantry which had ranks of men kneeling and standing with levelled bayonets, a loose horse was shot and fell thrashing in agony and scattering the French. Rittmeister Von Usslar Gleichen saw this chaos and led his cheering squadron through the gap and in minutes destroyed the square, hacking down those who resisted and capturing the rest.

Says it all really!

I hope that K&C will provide KGL cavalry sometime.

That print is one of my all time Napoleonic favorites, ranks right up there with the print of the French Cuirassier Cavalry charge roaring into the Highlander square, terrific stuff.........

There is another famous print showing French Cuirassiers, during Ney's cavalry attack, tumbling into the sunken road that ran along the allied position.
