Hi All,

I haven't posted any work on this site for a while. The reason is that I have a spotty record of completing the SBS on-line as I work on many projects in parallel and there are a few unresolved threads of mine here...:).

Anyway, I've discovered the joys of blogging, courtesy of my kid. The blogs actually keep all my work in some kind of order and helps me to hunt down many unfinished projects in my stash.

I have been working on converting this Tradition piece. It had been in my collection for over 30 years and I felt that it was time that I used it in an old school style of conversion (eg Roy Dilley). I've decided to post this thread here because I've actually finished the conversion and am confident of completing this piece! The pictures are gathered here in a photo essay from the various postings on my blog.

Enjoy. Rgds Victor

Re: Napoleonic Drum Major 2

This was painful. The figure was amputated and a new striding pose was selected.

Re: Napoleonic Drum Major 3

The nose was reshaped. The 67th Ligne Regt Drum Major was selected and uniform details were sculpted to represent this. Rigo and Bucquoy are among my references.

Re: Napoleonic Drum Major 4

The sash was sanded off and a new sash and details were fabricated. Arms were added. The figure was undercoated in enamels for final painting.

Roy Dilley! Showing your age there Victor.

How did you make the flaming bomb on the new sash?

Should look good once you finished the painting.

Ah, you mention the master Roy Dilley. If his books hadn't been available in Benwell branch Library, Newcastle on Tyne when I was a kid I doubt I would be making figures now!.

Probably about time you took 'em back!:D

Hello JB, Hazebrook and Martin,

Actually, I was baiting you lot to admit knowledge of Roy Dilley, thus inadvertently showing your true ages. I merely bought some old copies of his books off the internet, searching under archaelogy...:)

His books are quite fun to read, and really gets any collector to want to try his hand at conversions. Hence my recent surge of 3d activity after a long walkabout in zinnfiguren.

The sash was detailed with Historex bits including the flaming bombs where applicable, and other details were sculpted. The epaulettes were Historex with fringes sculpted in putty. Hands and cuffs were Historex and the baton was from Metal Modeles.

I further painted this figure over the weekend and its starting to look quite colourful. For those of you with a 36-band itch, the reference pictures were there to get you started....

Already have one - though haven't counted the pieces............Wasn't Dilley a cricketer????.

BTW - Nice job..............jb :D

Hello Scott, JB and all,

you are making references to people before I was born....:) (and no, I am not in denial either...:)).

Anyway, almost finished painting the figure. I shortened the left hand by a few mm (you can see that the glove is now overlapping the double stripes) and am now doing the base.

I completed the painting and created a simple base groundwork. Finished!

As I was scattering grass onto various pieces, I decided to also do the same for this piece and retook the pic.

I retook pics of this piece against a black velvet background. I think that the details and colours are much clearer.
