The FL Russian and British gun sets have the gunners unencumbered with packs and rifles. The K&C British and French gun sets also have unencumbered gunners. But the K&C Russian gunners are wearing full packs. The FL French gun set has the gunners wearing full packs with slung rifles.

Wouldn't the gun crews typically stack their rifles and packs to the rear of the gun while they were firing?

yes, having rifles with you when handling a gun is a problem, you are trying to man handle the gun, carry ammunition so stacking them is the solution. As far as packs go, I'd say the same, but if the guns were brought into action fast, or you were in danger of being over run by the enemy, leaving packs on the back would be the way to go. If you had to run, you still had you own gear, but Gunner's don't leave their guns.

With K&C RHA and French Horse Artillery of the Guard, they didn't carry packs, their gear was in the wagon train, and they were mounted, so packs are only the problem of foot artillery.

I the modern era, we always had our weapons close by, usually propped up in the gun pit, but packs would be in the vehicle if it was only a short deployment.

And the french did sometimes put their guns in very aggressive positions, and so probably manned the guns in full gear on occasion. Probably the Russians occasionally manned the guns while carrying their packs.
