Napoleonic Russian Hussars posted... (1 Viewer)

Some of them are repaints of the earlier Hussars, NAP 122-133, and they do look very good. These are repaints done right, albeit more expensive than the earlier ones, but that’s to be expected.

I agree they do look good.

However seems from your comment some repaints right and others not so. You say these are done right. So now that they are US$100 more than their earlier versions will you actually be buying one ?. Talk is cheap. The other repaints being discussed elsewhere strangely have been done at exactly same price as their original version.

You have to think back a bit and remember that the first Russian Hussar release from First Legion was the Akhtyrsky Hussars which were introduced for $99.95 way back in may of 2009 that's 12 years ago.

I can't think of any company whose prices have remained the same for 12 years.

I also can't think of any company whose quality has improved so dramatically over that same period.

Are these repaints ? Yes with a little tweek here and there but the painting quality looks to be to another level even for First Legion.

Are they worth the price increase over the prices from their Hussar prices from 12 years ago ? That will be up to First Legion collectors.

The only thing that hasn't changed in twelve years is that you never miss a chance to take a shot at First Legion and are still saying they are over priced .

At least your consistent my friend :wink2:

For the record I have all the original Russian Hussar releases from 12 years ago and plan on picking up a few of the new ones, also for the record with the higher prices I will not be buying them all at one time but spacing the purchase out over a long period of time.

Brad,
I agree, not all repaints in the hobby are created equal. FL's repaints are a step up from the originals to my eyes (as nice as the originals were).

Has anyone else noticed that FL is no longer posting their newsletters here?

Joe

I don't disagree with most of what you say. If people willing to pay FL price good on them. Same goes for buying a repainted KC. My point was more relating to Jazzeum than any dig at FL. I think you might be living in the distant past in relation to me never missing a chance to take a shot at FL as for years hardly ever commented in this area.

Remember the thread about a year ago involving WP's French Old Guard and their similarity to FL's ? It was me who was FL's biggest supporter in that thread. What was however interesting to see was the number of so called FL fans who simply did not think it an issue as long as the WP ones were much cheaper. Jazzeum was one who was noticeably lacking in his support of FL in that thread which was a contrast to his comments years ago when FL raised issue of Country Honor using body parts of FL WW2 figure.

Please excuse me for maybe being a bit hasty in my comment that you were taking a shot at FL. It just came off to me as a bit of a dig at their prices, which you'll have to admit to having a bit of a history doing. If that wasn't your intent please except my apology. Enough on that, here is to a fresh start.

I certainly do remember that thread and you'll also remember that I was of the opinion that they were a complete copy of the FL figures. I also was a bit surprised by the lack of response by some FL "collectors" to call it. Not sure that the motive was to save a buck or two or just try to replace the long sold out FL figures with a cheaper copy.

Well in the end FL dealt with it and the figures disappeared. It appears that WP has moved on from the experience and is getting ready to release some firing Guard figures which look the perfect compliment to FL's marching figures.

I'm totally against what I feel is the complete theft of someone else's hard work, regardless of the company being done wrong. Its not a cheap process to develop a line and to have someone else come along and give that hard work to someone to have copied for production is just wrong in my opinion. We all know its not the first or the last time that it will happen.

I can't speak for others but I certainly wouldn't knowing support such behavior and would encourage others not to as well. There are things much more important then making or saving a buck. At least to some. :wink2:. regards Gebhard

No problem at all. I was not aiming at FL. Regarding price I get that people prefer to pay a lower price but using another brands work to achieve that is not acceptable. I think Matt might have expected a bit more support in that thread and you were one of the very few who understood the issue.
