Following on from John's link to the original paintig of Rorkes Drift.
Note is was painted only three years after the battle (1879) and purchased very quickly by the New South Wales art gallery.
I was surprised to find this Down Under. I would guess this would be the most valuable military artwork. Would be interested to hear of others that might challenge it.
One of the Osprey books has a very similar image on the front cover but on close inspection you will see it is same scene but with minor differences. Artist did another painting almost exactly the same which is owned by the Regiment.
