Despite his number Napoléon 1st was not the first one. There was another Napoléon before him. Who was he?

"Napoleone Buonaparte (ca 1717 – 17 August 1767/1768). Chief of the Council of Elders of Ajaccio since 1764. Killed in battle against the invading French forces attempting to capture Corsica."

He was Napoleon's great uncle.

Well, I didn't know about this one :rolleyes2: so this means that there were 2 other Napoléon before our Emperor. The question then becomes who was the other one? :wink2:

OK, since no one found who was the second one (BTW kudos to Sandor to identify the first one) here is the answer:

It stays in the family. The other Napoléon prior to the Emperor was...his older brother who died in his first year.

In order of birth, the Buonaparte 11 children were:

Napoleone Buonaparte - Born 1764/1765 Died August 17, 1765
Maria Anna Buonaparte - Born January 3, 1767 Died January 1, 1768
Joseph I of Spain - Born January 7, 1768 Died July 28, 1844
Napoleon I of France - Born August 15, 1769 Died May 5, 1821
Maria Anna Buonaparte - Born July 14, 1771 Died November 23, 1771
Lucien Bonaparte - Born May 21, 1775 Died June 29, 1840
Elisa Bonaparte - Born January 13, 1777 Died August 7, 1820
Louis Bonaparte - Born September 2, 1779 Died July 25, 1844
Pauline Bonaparte - Born October 20, 1780 Died June 9, 1825
Caroline Bonaparte - Born March 24, 1782 Died May 18, 1839
Jérôme Bonaparte - Born November 15, 1784 Died June 24, 1860

As you can see Napoleone's and Maria Anna's names who died before they were 2 year old were reused later for their subsequent siblings. Maria Anna didn't seem to be a lucky one though in the family...

Man, I always love these! Here is one request- make a big multi-part question, possibly with a multiple choice poll, and let it go for two weeks, and see how many get it right.
