Napolonic Drum Major (2 Viewers)

I bought this Russian casting> the pose looked good and I've always liked colourful musicians. The figure is quite large, measuring at least 60mm to the top of the head. The details of the uniform seems to have come from several sources and it doesn't quite represent a specific Drum Major. I have opted for the 9th Ligne Regt as this was a colourful red/green uniform.

The figure base was snipped off and the figure was mounted onto a wooden base made from a candlestick holder.

So I scrapped off the Hungarian knots on the hips which were too elaborate for the 9th Ligne Regt and will repaint these details.

I further scrapped off the knots on the hips following the painting undercoat. I also removed the heart devices on the turnbacks and substituted these with Historex flaming grenade devices.

The figure was painted over in oils, highlighted with yellow for both tunic and trousers, and shaded with purple overall. The outlines for the new Hungarian knots can be seen on the hips.

Those Historex flaming grenades you use- where do you get them and what else do they have?

Lots of goodies there. However, I think it is cheaper to buy whole kits and scavenge from these.

Another update. Instead of sticking on a Historex spare part and painting that, I painted the Hungarian knots freehand which was easier.

Just painted the silver and gold bits on the figure.

I changed the green hue on the trousers with more yellow highlights. I have also painted in the dark colours on the staff, hat and boots.

I further readjusted the painting on the Hungarian knots and painted the yellow trim with burnt umber. I scattered grass on the groundwork.

I've just completed painting this figure. Need to finish the backlog inventory on my table... A fun painting project - shading the reds and greens. You'll probably have noticed the improved photography. I've just realised that my fancy iPhone has a much better camera lens than my point and shoot toy camera. Less photo-editing and washed out photo-effects etc. I am still exploring the optimal light setting for my in-progress shoots but don't want to get too involved in photobug technical stuff as I would rather focus on making the miniatures.

I have a plastic STORME figure painted as the same drum major, hope you like him ??

He was found in a street market in Bruges, Belgium a few years back when I was touring around.
