When you can, get over to the US Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, Va. Beautiful building and great displays. Marine veterans are guides and interpreters. The gentleman at the 2nd Suribachi flag display was especially good AND they have that historic flag. Good display of the Korean War. My daughter could learn where her grandfather fought.

Have lunch at the "Tun Tavern" on site. Faux colonial decor. Good service! I had a good burger and a great draft beer.

My wife and 15 year old loved the place. Lot's of folks brought families. You'll see 1 to 1 scale dioramas plus some miniature figure dioramas. Britains and other figures are on sale in the gift shop.

Air and Space at Dullas`today...and Smithsonian tomorrow.

Hi Scott - did you go to the Air and Space by Dulles Airport, or the original one in DC near the capital? They both have different things. The one by the Dulles Airport has the Anola *** B29 and the blackbird (and I am having a senior moment with it's number) - They also have some cool things like the model used for the aliens in the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." They may not have the Space shuttle "Enterprise" there as they are swapping it out with the subtle "Discovery." They have some nice rockets next to that, one of them a Delta wing rocket called a "Pegasus" which gets dropped off the belly of an L1011 aircraft. I work on the Pegasus program as my day job.

Glad you are enjoying the Washington DC area.

Matthew

Scott, I was there in June (pics posted on other thread) and it's just awesome! Went to Fredericksburg battlefield later that day. If you are ever near Ft Benning check out the Infantry Musuem. It opened in new facilities last yr and laid out very much like the Marine Corps Museum. Chris

Thank you Matthew

We hit the Dulles airport museum and plan to go to one on the Mall Weds. We saw the sunset parade at the Iwo Jima monument to night. My wife has the "bragging rights" on the USMC as her father was in Korea and his still active in veterans activities in New Jersey.

I'd like to see that museum. My father was stationed in the South for part of WW II before he went to Europe. I enjoyed working in Georgia back in the late 90s.
