Early stages of the elimination rounds, but UMD actually stands at 2-0 in the Columbia Regional. UMd has beaten Old Dominion and South Carolina by identical 4-3 scores and now awaits the winner of the Campbell-SC elimination game. This is sort of a big deal for we UMd baseball fans, mainly because the last time UMd was even in the NCAA Baseball Tournament was in 1971, my freshman year at UMd. Since my first semester was the fall semester, I have never even seen UMd in the Tourney. Go Terps! -- Al

Last night the UMd Terps beat SC 10-1 to win their Columbia, SC, regional. This means they now will play the winner of the Charlottesville regional in a best-of-three super regional for a spot in the WS. UMd is now 39-21 on the season. The 2 wins over SC are quite impressive since prior to losing the two games to UMd, SC had a 28 home game winning streak in the NCAA tournament. The losses also prevented SC from advancing in home regional play for the first time since 1976, which was also the last time SC gave up double-digit runs in a home regional. Nice job Terps! -- Al

Forgot to mention that UMd's opponent in the super-regional will be Virginia, fellow ACC rival and the #3 national seed. Games will be played June 6 thru 9. Tough draw for UMd, but what the heck. It's better than no draw at all, and it is the furthest they've ever gotten. -- Al

Hey Chris, Terps play UVa on Saturday, June 7, at noon on ESPN2 and same time and place on Sunday. Go Terps!^&grin -- Al

Terps win Game 1 over UVa, 5-4. UVa stranded 14 baserunners, including 2 in the bottom of the 9th, but Terps hang on for the 1-0 lead in the best of 3 series. UMD now has 40 wins on the season. I'd almost forgotten how long college games can take as this one went almost 3 3/4 hours. -- Al

:smile2: GO TERPS! Chris

UVa got even in game 2, beating UMd 7-3, to square the best of 3 at 1 game each. Payoff game tomorrow. UMd didn't look good today, looking nervous and making basic mistakes in baserunning and fielding. Need to do better tomorrow to get to the WS final 8. -- Al

UMd vs UVA tonight at 7pm, EST, on ESPN 2. It's Game 3, winner take all, do or die, win or go home. Go Terps! -- Al

And the dream season ends with a thud. Terps being routed 11-2 in the 8th but the Terps have nothing to be ashamed of. They did a tremendous job getting to the last 16 teams. Congratulations to the Terps. A fine season to exit the ACC. -- Al

Hi Al, a bit disappointing in the finish. Oh well, we'll take the Big Ten next yr. :smile2: Chris

I am hoping that UT can keep going, and it would be kind of nice for TCU to do the same.

As an ACC fan, I have to back UVa, even though it goes against my UMd sympathies. Today's games have Vandy vs Texas and UVa vs Ole Miss. These are elimination games for Texas and Ole Miss, who have each lost once. -- Al

Al:

No worries. I root for UT as more than a Texan, the tution checks for our sons pretty much obligate me to cheer them on.

UVa beat Ole Miss today, eliminating them, and sending UVa to the finals against whoever wins tonight's game between Texas and Vandy. What a year the Cavaliers have had. -- Al

Tough loss for UT. I am happy for Vandy as it is their first trip to the WS.

It was a good game and a tough loss, can't get any closer than OT . Vandy now faces UVa for the title. As a matter of interest, it is UVa's first trip as well. A couple of first timers. Would not have bet that. -- Al

I like the fact that both of the teams have never been to the WS. I will be pulling for UVA, hopefully they can get some revenge for the Longhorns.

It all comes down to a winner-take-all game tomorrow. Vandy took game 1, UVa took game 2, so game 3 is the title game. Been a pretty entertaining CWS, and whomever wins, they will be a first time winner. -- Al
