Morning Sammy,
It is a bit difficult to see exactly what you are referring to in the photo ... but nice cabinets anyway!

If the hinges came out of the wood then I would suggest a top grade epoxy putty that you can refill the holes, pre-drill new ones and screw the hinges back in.

If the hinges are broken, then office furniture stores (Like Staples) sells all sort of hinges. Also "do-it-yourself" stores like Home depot and Lowes sell a lot of hinge kits. If you can show me a bit more of what happened I can go deeper as I buy, repair and re-sell all sorts of furniture as another hobby.

PS It is real wood or particle board?

More specifically, it's a barrister bookcase, because the style was popular in attorney's offices, back in the day.

Are there proper hinges, or, do the doors lift and retract via a pair of pins inserted in the upper corners of each door, and these ride in a rabbet, that is, a groove, milled in to the inside surface of the side walls of your cabinet? I have one like this. It's of solid wood, but those pins are wood. On older cabinets, they are often made of metal, like brass, and last much longer. On mine, the pins are basically the same kind of wooden plug that is used to join pieces together. They will eventually wear and break, over time.

If yours has wooden pins, has one of them snapped off flush with the frame of the door? It's a simple matter to drill that out and make a replacement from a piece of hardwood dowel.

Prost!

Hey Sammy,

Can you post a picture of the hinge and the area they fix to, i used to restore furniture for a living.

Hard to tell Sam, but looks like the only broken hinge is the bottom shelf. Most hardware stores carry several types of hinges, the original type may be more specialized and harder to find a replacement but you should be able to find them online somewhere. Otherwise you could use the bottom shelf for books etc, without the glass door.

Thanks for all the great replies, I'll snap a few photos of the hinges that are broken and the hinges that aren't.

Thanks again for the replies, being the curio is pretty old, all of the employees we talked to yesterday at Lowe's, Ace, Home Depot said the same thing that it's best to take the curio to a cabinet maker here in Tucson, Once I get her repaired it's going to be a great display cabinet for future toy soldiers.

Be sure to consider the lead rot problem...seems to be an issue with mostly lead figures i believe i read.

Hi Sammy,

Great score those are very nice book cases/curios. Once you post the pictures of the hinges I am sure one of us will be able to give better advice. On the lead rot mention there is a thread that discussed this a while ago. There are tannins in the oak that can be an issue with older lead figures.
