Years ago when living in South Florida I stumbled upon a massive hardcover in a library's reference section that chronicled England's exploits across the globe. As I couldn't check it out I was only able to skip through it briefly, and although I wrote down the name I misplaced it after I moved north. The one thing that stood out was an illustration in the opening pages depicting a group of elderly veterans decked out in pith helmets and medals at a parade for Queen Victoria. I have since searched the library's catalog online but the book is not showing up. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Could possibly be a bound volume of the Navy and Army Illustrated. This was a magazine published between 1897 and 1914 and bound volumes sometimes appear on the market. They contain a wealth of photographs and some issues have articles on foreign units as well. Well worth obtaining if you find any of them. Trooper

Hi Martyn

Those are great references!

Carnahan, if you have any idea of the name of the book take a look at Abebooks.com and see if you can find it. They have a ton of books listed for sale around the world.

Martyn, roughly how big are those covers? Those look familiar, but I can't remember what the front looked like. The book stood over a foot tall and almost as long, and it was about three inches thick. I really didn't have a lot of time to look at it, and as the library was not close to home I never got back before I moved.
Dave, I did a search on a couple of sites but since I remember so little nothing is ringing a bell! I'm going to try and call the library soon to see if someone can help.
