New 1/30 Aviation Series (1 Viewer)

Not really Gary. Since my initial post, before we had details, I posted three times. Once, to indicate that diecast doesn't interest me; second, to respond to Col. Hesler's question and indicate that he's wrong about the composition of the Hurricane; and three, to respond to Damian's point. I think the posts speak for themselves.

So what is the market rate on this forum for a diecast 1:30 warbird.
I like the K and C ones, but they are really limited and very expensive.
Regards
Damian

....As far as the Hurricane being made of wood, that's not correct. It was a metal frame, with a fabric covering.
Yes and no.;) The original Hurricane's airframe was made of braced metal tubing, mostly covered by fabric (including the wings). The engine cowl and the front part of the fuselage had a metal skin. After 29 September 1939, all Hurricanes were delivered with wings covered with stressed metal skin, but the fuselage behind the trailing edge of the wings remained fabric covered. The ailerons remained fabric covered for a longer period. The forward fuselage was covered with detachable metal panels and the aft with fabric over light wooden formers. It will be interesting to see how they translate this composite construction.

The Corgi metal 1/32s are going for about $120 for limited editions of about 1200 to 2500. I have a feeling that a release of 20, which would sell out in about 20 minutes, will be more the the K&C price range. I might consider a Spitfire, especially a Mk IX or VIII, but that is a bit pricey for my tastes.

Thanks for the clarification. There was an interesting article in the Smithsonian Air and Space magazine recently about the Spitfire and Hurricane. It's available at www.airspacemag.com and then do a search.

Thanks Brad, I am always looking for new WWII (especially fighter) resources.

The Corgi warbirds are alot a bang for the buck, very detailed and nice planes!!! I am a Me109 nut case, so I am after the 109's they make, the Hurris are gorgeous as well

Oh I agree, the Spitfire Mk Is are nice as well, even though Corgi (admittedly) under represented the wing dihedral, a mistake they were supposed to correct on the next Marks they did. The way it is modeled it would have been considerably more twitchy to fly.;) They made odd aircraft choices though, first a BoB version Spitfire, then a mid to late war 109G, then back to a BoB Hurricane, with some later war variations; Only the later Hurris faced off against that model 109, and not that often at that. Of course then they top it off by cancelling the line, go figure.:rolleyes:

Damian , Ebay always has a few either as auctions or in stores,
Other places i,ve picked them up from include sierra toy soldiers
Aikens aeroplanes [both in the US] They are big so shipping generaly runs at about $40-50 to NZ.They even do a hurricane of one or your country men
A.G Lewis. [I also stumbled across a site called tommys toys in SA that also had some listed].
Some of the guys in the US probably know of a fair few other places to get them.
cheers Rob

I saw one of these Mosquitos once and it was indeed tremendous.

I just wish I could find a few good pictures of them

Damian,

As I parse his words, that's not altogether clear -- "price will be market set by other manufacturers on the forum for current products of this type" -- I don't think there are on his type on the market but although I'm interested in paying the K & C rate for a few wooden planes per year, I'm not interested in doing so if they're diecast, no offense to those collectors.

The planes are not at all diecast but will replicate whatever material was used in that craft. We hope to become the defacto standard in this enthusiast area with our new "Eagles Of The Skies" releases.

Jazzseum since you seem quite bullish on KC warbirds ( and everything else K&C:) you'll be very pleased to note that we are going to follow that Warbirds market leader in so far as price points ( we hope to come in a bit lower actually ) and add an incredible amount of dynamic control features.

Servo animitronic controls have come down incredibly in the last few years ( Im quite a digital controls electronic buff myself ). We have found servos that are the size of a toenail and achieve great control when actuated by standard micro chip level processing units. The technology is cheap and can be installed in quite a few small areas: under pilots seats and in fuselage works. Most of the tchnology we are implementing is being used currently in robotic armitures.

Hope that helps! Thanks for the interest all!

regards,

Brian

Sorry about that, we hope to introduce the aviation models for about $600-$750 depending on the production run.

In regards to the Tiger and Horch releases we expect to ship next month. Thanks for your kind interest.

very best regards,

Brian
