Nice new up and coming sets especially the 3 new Zulus and the new Zulu hand-to-hand set. Will also get the 3 new Mahdists and I do like the new Germans, the Flame-thrower set especially. A nice little set of new arrivals all in all.

The Zulu-hand-to-hand set follows the previous released ones and at 700 LE sets will go very quickly.

I am praying Britains provides the rest of the kraal as well as I am currently using stonework from Britains' US civil war / revolutionary war collection for my Rorke's drift diorama. Hopefully Richard from Britains will be at the upcoming toy soldier show at Ft York in Toronto in the next couple of weeks to provide additional insight on upcoming releases!

I've a hunch your pryers will be answer an that the kraal you'll see will be making it's appearance zulucollector and welcome aboard. It'll be nice to see what you currently have for your kraal and what you have set up for your Mission Station..............The Lt.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.... Per your request albeit the pictures are a little rough.....It is still a work in progress. I am still undecided whether to use a more traditional green terrain as the current one is a little busy.

Welcome zulucollector! Your R's D certainly ranks among the best of the hobby! Do you plan to add the new building section? Also, is that every Zulu piece (newer MATT, not the glossy) Britains has made (I don't see some of the modelzone pieces...)? Certainly impressive! Also, definitely keep the current mat!

I am planning on getting the new building section as it solves one of the major issues with doing a rorke's drift diorama ie nothing is happening in the open courtyard as I plan to follow the painting that Britains is using for hospital evacuation instead of everyone behind the biscuit boxes while they evacuate the hospital.

I have all the Britains regular and collector matte sets except the firing line set and christmas in natal. I am holding back some sets from Rorke's drift for my Isandlwana project. In terms of modelzone, the only one that fits this diorama would be cold steel as the other one at the biscuit boxes would not work for me in my current configeration. The rest of modelzone sets in my opinion are better suited for Isandlwana which I would like to do a smaller diorama maybe 4 X 4. I have the washing of the spears so I am fan of modelzone's choices. Now saying all that I continue to look to pick some up but prices are unreal....

Not sure if collectors mix and match outside of Britains but I am also tempted to get the heros of the drift from Conte as they are based on the (zulu) movie leads. ie M. Caine etc...

PS The building on the right is the officer's washroom closet (latrine) that I picked up from Little Legions

This is what I like about our hobby; people can take different spins/takes on the same event with similar pieces. Robin's excellent diorama looks to be a few hours ahead of mines with the first rushing of the hospital ocurring. A few details that caught my eye:

1) the most elaberote kraal for a RD diorama - never mind actual cattle (maybe an ode to the movie?) and a trough no less - Simply WoW
2) the wagon next to the kraal could have been Lt Chard's engineering wagon from the day before as they tried to fix the ponts for the column's supply line (would love for Britains to do a covered wagaon for Lt Chard and/or Isandlwana or a pont similar to Little Legions)
3) increased realism of using the incompete mealie bag barricades which also adds to the visual intensity of the struggle for the hospital
4) using two mounted izindunas (the prince and one unamed who is killed near the hospital per historians)
5) the green terrain is likely the most realistic option (also visually shows off the pieces better) as historians cite the slowness for the zulus to set fire to the roofs due to dampness from 3 days of rain. Also command later complains after the fact in their inability to clear the growth around the mission to create better firing lines as futher support for green.
6) others including ladder and turning over the wagons like the movie

Has anyone ever attempted or seen a pont crossing of the column over the buffalo river diorama?

Thank you ZC for responding to my request and then some sharing your Mission Station with us it's very nicely laid out and your more than welcomed for joining us. Your work in progress is coming along fine and you've got liberties to make adjustment to it as time goes by. As for your terrain features I'd go with green and as you'll notice I along with others have the latest Conte figures included in our collections and highly recommend them. You'll find that I've featured both Conte and Britain figures together along with with others in many of my photo dioramas as well as when I have set up my Mission Station featuring none Britain items in creating it. Looking forward to additional photo close up's when you have time to share them. Once again thank you for your photos and welcome aboard..............The Lt.

thank you kindly, I have been told the wagons should be upright unlike the movie. The second wall in front of the hospital was in the process of being built when the attack started. My poor version of the pont is shown. cheers, Robin.

Just a quick note on the original topic. Sorry no pic but I hear that modelzone is planning on doing a hand to hand set with the kraal as well. If cold steel was any indication of demand, it should be one of the hot items for 2013 zulu lovers....

The two young men putting the firing range posts in - a nice touch ( I am guessing they are custom figs)

"Oh no. Come all this bloody way to get shot by a bullet from Birmingham ..."

Could not find my Conte British boy at the time, lost amongst my collection, he would have been much better carrying the range markers. All my Model Zone figures are directly from their shop in the UK. cheers, Robin.
