Yo Troopers, conceded ground on the 16/5th Lancers, was attacked from all sides from the GIs. Got my bugler to sound retreat, but my cavalry have regrouped and are ready for battle lol. Not having none of set #100 21st Lancers. Every time I read about how good Britains were at getting everything right where did they come up with this dress for the 21st Lancers, which was one of their very early sets. Until 1896 the 21st Lancers were the 21st Hussars, then changed to a lancer regiment and sent to Eygpt. Not ONLY one ask's were did they get the lancer uniform from, why do a set of the most JUNIOR of all the great calvaly regiments ie; the Regiment saw so little action up to 1896, that the rest of the Cavalry Regiments Joke was the 21st Motto should be "THOU SHALL NOT KILL". So why did Britains decide to make this set in this uniform (see photo of 21st in 1893) and do a set of such a junior regiment, AND not even bother with Regiments that where at the Charge Of The Light Brigade, or one for you "Napolean" the 1st British Cavalry Regiment to be awarded a Battle honour a record they held for 30 years, you tell me which regiment this was?. Looks to me Troopers Britains just put anything out to sell to the kids as you say. It wasn't till the 1990s Britains honoured some of the great cavalry regiments that where in the most famous cavalry charge in history, and Gads Sir, it took a guy born in Uruguay, lives in Cosat Rica, to get a Spanish firm to make a set of the 1st British cavarly Regiment to get a battle honour. NOW THATS NOT CRICKET CHAPS.
Lets hear no more of how good Britains were. Did you like that one Dick lol.

Ha! Ha! You put me on the spot here. I would have answered the 3rd KOH but I'm pretty sure Britains made those. I just read The Boer War by Thomas Pakenham and the 3rd Hussars made an appearance so they are stuck in my head. And they kick ***. Now I'm going to cheat and go look it up :)

I suppose trooper the problem was that Britains in their wisdom recognized the fact that the backbone of the British army and its real glory were the wonderful infantry regiments. They did all the hard work. The cavalry were more for showing off and parading around Hyde Park and such places, and charming the lady's with their tight cherry red trousers. They were always charging after everything. The British mounted units were the best cavalry and the worst lead in Europe. The poor old 21st were so desperate to get a Battle Honour that they nearly got themselves wiped out at Omdurman. Even at Ulundi it was the poor bloody infantry who did all the work then the 17 th Lancers just picked off the Zulus as they ran away.

You have to remember though the age of this set and that it was designed for kids to play with :)

Yo Troopers. lol Damian "SIR" brought a smile to my face this morning, good start to the day, anyway its later now but of course you are right the Cavalry were BOSS poser's, even when I was in, we used to look down on the foot sloggers, but gad sir we looked brilliant. We were like Elvis only 100 years earlier real Peacocks. But having said that if you had to shell out £650.00 (more than a years pay) in the 1880s to get an officers rig-out boy who wouldn't want to pose for the Ladies in our tight pantaloons and a big sabre at the ready lol. Read somwhere Winstone Churchill had to borrow the money to get his officers outfit when he Joined the 4th Hussars. Yeh the poor old 21st came good in the end, thats why I think the 1990s set 8807 does them more justice. Well said "SIR"
Bernard.

Yo Troopers, got Napolean by the Shabraques lol, the 3rd KOH & 7th QOH was my old Regiment Napolean The QOH, we had so many battle honours you couldn't see our uniform lol, and boy we did kick ***. So I will wait for the answer while you go through all your books Napolean. Dont mess with the best lol.
Bernard.

I am glad you enjoyed my comments and took them in the spirit they were intended. I read a revisionist view of the Charge of The Light Brigade. Apparently it should not be regarded as a famous British military disaster. In fact it was a huge success. The Russians were so frightened that they ran and hid in Sebastopol and didn't come out again till the end of the war. Now pass the claret there old boy
Regards
Damian

Yo Troopers, yes right again Damian "SIR", but we got wiped out, but can you imagine the bottle (courage) it took, sitting there looking down the valley with thousands of Russian infantry, artillary about 60 cannons, and cavarly waiting for you and there are only 673 of you. Got to admire the Officers they led from the front so they they didnt just pose around, I would have pulled rank and gone to the rear lol. Anyway back to the subect got a set today 8813 and it took 100 years to do the 13th Hussars but a great set, notice the foot sloggers are below us again lol.

Well
The British army does have a certain affection for its less successful actions. The old Royal Regiment of Wales keeps going on about Islandwana. I am sure the OC has dined out on that one more times than he can remember. There is nothing like a stirring disaster to inspire the British army.

Yo Trooper, where are you Napolean, not buried in books are you lol. Joined your site last night its good, but wont have much to say looks like you have all the big guns on Old Britains on site will just be watching and learning, I am only a sprog (British Army saying for new recruit) when it comes to Toy Soldiers. I did like the list of Britains sets and what year they made them good info for peasant Trooper like me who cant afford the Great book. Still waiting for answer though, with all the experts on your site should be easy. If not Trooper its two weeks Jankers and you dont want to do that lol.
Bernard.

Up to my ears in regimental history books here :) I'm going with the
[DRUM ROLL]
Kings Dragoon Guards

There was a Britains set(2074) released in 1953 though so I'm not betting the farm on my answer. They were also part of set 129 British Cavalry Presentation Case but they were painted wrong. With yellow collar and cuffs instead of blue.
Thanks for the kind words about my site. We're going to do a press release for military publications for the "Dimestore" variety soldiers (Manoil, Barclay, Grey Iron, etc..) so I've been busy with those.

Enjoying this thread. Damian, you are too funny.

Yo Trooper Napolean lol guess what WRONG 'DOH' the first British Cavalry Regiment to get a battle honour was the 15th Hussars awarded on 19 December 1768 for Emsdorff, and it was 30 years before any other Cavalry Reiment were awarded a battle Honour. Put the books away Napolean,a nd as for Damian thinks we are all posers lol.
Bernard.

I feel like a poser. I didn't even consider that one (for a reason that I'm ashamed to admit). It was a lot of fun looking though. I came across a few neat sites that I wouldn't have found otherwise.

Thanks for the picture Dickbuttons. Even though I was wrong :) I always enjoy a nicely kept box of the original hollowcast. That set is from 1953 to 1960 (it changed dramatically in 1960) and in that condition is actually rarer than they once believed. Very nice.

Yo Troopers, just for you Napolean, 15th Hussars. Not many people have these Hussars they were made special by Alymer in 1990. Would haved liked the horses more like Britains, but as I have said Britains couldn't be bothered with these famous cavaly regiments one of many not made by Britains(you watching Richard) Looking ahead think Old Britains will be priced out of many peoples reach, then all the other good makers to name a few will be the in sets, like Alymer, Hiriart, Monarch, Imperial, Frontline, Steadfast etc etc.

Those are very nice Bernard. Thanks for the photo and we'd love to see more close ups of all those troopers in your cupboards whenever you have time to post some more.

Hey just got a box full of Britains Crimea sets from Treefrog...Light Bde is now up to 8 members with 2 Russian cannons and a dozen Russians 'waiting for it'. Very impressed with the Treefrog shipping (approx 48 hours)...Wow!

Oh, I'm sorry Bernard, just got the 3 newer ones plus multiples of the older ones. Apologies for the confusion.

Bernard are you asking why Britains made the 21st Lancers or are you asking why they made them in review order?
