Andy

I contacted Conte directly and though they said they would have ACW this year, they said they had no details and no timing. It did not sound very convincing to me.

You won't get much out of the people at Conte. As nice as Tasha and Darlene are, they don't know any better than any of the rest of us.They just take orders.

Look at their website.I think they have union arty , Union and Reb Marching command sets listed as TBA. Have been there for sometime but I would guess that those might be the new ACW releases.

I like their new WW2 Plastic Americans and the new Metal Spartans though!

I have been keeping a real close watch on the Conte sight and must say I am a little confused. If you read a statement at the end of the Omaha playset blog Mr Conte talks about plastic playsets he wants to do with the Ortiz confederates being part of a Pickett's charge playset. My hopes were raised they would be plastic, but I read today about the retirement of some of the older metal ACW sets and the Ortiz confederates would be their replacements. So now I set here wondering. But the post also said they would be coming out Dec 1st. With the Union troops to follow in the spring of 07. I don't think my pocket book can stand that much metal and I have already asked Santa for the crater playset. She said yes but I've got to work the over time. Geez thanks Santa.

Don,t count on any new plastic Civil War from Conte for a long time, my guess and I,m not being sarcastic, two years minimum.

I saw Robert Ortiz sculpting some of these ACW figures in the Conte Room in Chicago and I guess he's finished with them. I'm not a ACW collector but you have really appreciate the fine work craftsmanship here. I like the painting better on these compared to their WWII figures because the painting is of a lighter tone showing off the sculpting work better.

Take a look at the rest of the pictures at:
http://conteco.com/PreView/SOSseries.htm

I do like Contes new GI's but they need to lighten up the tune of the paint just a little bit to show off Robert's work. Gees if I were only collecting ACW, I'd mix new Britains, Conte and ONTC together. There's lots of material there to work with and all 1/32 scale.

What do you guys think?

Carlos

Carlos, There is a very good selection of ACW these days between the manufacturers you mention as well as Frontline.
I am impressed with the new Conte ACW.Dynamic poses, very dramatic which make for splendid displays.
Looks like a LOST CAUSE/ Picketts Charge theme.Theres the one guy with what looks to be a double barrel scattergun and a corncob pipe.I question the wisdom of that design a bit but I suppose he would be good in an early war Western themed display armed as he is.
Overall, Very inspiring.
I think someone just needs to give you a little push Carlos.I suggest find the books By Don Trioni and Keith Rocco regarding their art, the conflict for inspiration as well as your local Library as there are hundreds upon hundreds of excellent ACW books available.

ACW has been one of my obsessions since I was a little boy.You can always contact me if you want advise.

Fubar: The Union Armys is in need of a flagbearer for reenactments, now is the time to reenlist. Get out your flag and practice formation marching. Good excercise. Leadmen;)

Funny John. I suppose I could stand around with a flag , or maybe join the artillery and stand around scratching myself while the old fat guys move their pieces around.I sold all my uniforms ,accouterments, muskets, everything after it was obvious I could not continue.I just give orders to my little metal and plastic guys these days." On the right by file into line----MARCH" and they just stand there." At the quck step, forward March, Charge --- Bayonets, Double quick time ---MARCH" Come on you guys cooperate! They dont take orders very well.

I think Carlos is on the verge of a new collecting theme and I for one fully support it.Give in Carlos. You will not regret it.

Regarding Conte, Britians ect ACW, for more variety for the Confederates, I have gone so far as to repaint duplicate infantry figures.Changing shell jacket colors, trousers, slouch hats, blanket rolls etc. both on the painted plastic sets and some metal sets. I don't mid the duplicate poses, but the exact same figure in a battle line seemed to bother me.
The long blue line of Yankees, well , they should appear more uniform and with the variety available it's easy to space them out so the duplicates are not standing right next to each other in their 2 rank firing line.
Looking forward to the Conte figures as well as a couple of the new Britains sets I dont already have.
