I am sure most of you may already be aware of this but I thought I would put it out just in case.

Corgi will be releasing figures with some of their 1/50 scale armor and 1/72 scale aircraft this year. I think most of them will be coming out Sep-Dec. You can also buy the soldiers seperately. I know they introduced two dioramas last year and ended up canceling one of them. (D-Day, Arnhem Bridge was cancelled)

Here are some samples of what they have.

I have been thinking of adding them to my site. They look great but I keep thinking about the 1/50 scale. It is a pretty esoteric scale to work with. I don't know how they'll be received.

Anybody have opinoins (like I need to ask)?

As some members may confirm I've never been short of opinions - even about things I don't know much about :) However, I do have a good deal of experience with 1/50 scale because I started collecting 1/50 scale tanks (Solido etc) about twenty five years ago.

For many years 1/50 scale has been the 'standard scale' for commercial, military and contruction based diecast models. They were initially made in that scale to match the US based 'O' guage model railways, while UK and some European 'O' guage trains are closer to 1/43 scale. 1/50 scale vehicles also go close to matching 1/48 scale diecast aircraft made by companies such as Armour/Franklin Mint.

I've since sold off most of my 1/50 Solido tanks and replaced them with the Corgi versions as they are much better detailed. However I can't help thinking that Corgi have some how missed the boat with 1/50 scale as its popularity is in decline as far as military based vehicles are concerned.

I suspect collectors such as me that already have 1/50 scale trucks and models will continue to buy the 1/50 Corgi tanks and trucks. However I feel most collectors will go for the smaller 1/72 versions to save space or the larger 1/30 - 1/32 size for added heft. Corgi would do better to forget about 1/50 and concentrate on 1/72 being the same scale as their diecast aircraft. Sadly, past experience has proved that Corgi rarely do the sensible thing.

I saw dioramas with the Corgi vehicles and men at Jim Hillestad's place a few months ago (I think he was doing photography for the Corgi advertising). They were really incredible. Extremely detailled vehicles. As a 1/30 scale collector I have no use for them, but they were really tempting.

Thanks Oz. I grew up on those Solido vehicles. I loved their weight.

You are totally right about looking at it as 1:50 vs. 1:72. I do well with Forces of Valor 1:72. It would make sense to go with the Corgi 1:72nds in this case, as they are more compatible with the other makers.

I spoke with a Corgi rep last week in Chicago. According to him the diorama pieces with tanks and vehicles are done. Poor sales I guess. The aircraft market is expanding leaps and bounds though. Everyone is awaiting the release of the new Swordfish,Catylina,Typhoon etc...

I loved the Solido 1/50 scale Armoured Fighting Vehicles and have about two dozen in my collection. However, I am not buying more and have started buying Dragon's 1/72 scale models because I can display more of them due to their smaller size and, more importantly, they are making a lot of AFVs that Solido did not make in their line. I also am really impressed with the Forces of Valor 1/32 scale and have bought six so far. But they take up a lot of room. BTW, Frontline Figures makes 54 mm matte finnish WWII figures specically for FOV models. I bought their 9 piece set of SS Tankers and Fallscrimjaeger riders for the King Tiger.

Forces of Valor is one of my favorites. They really provide a lot of Bang for the Buck.

I especially like their soft vehicles.

Just be carefull with the Frontline figures. They had a tendency of tripping off the tank.

They just retired four vehicles. I have the numbers in the news section of my site if you want to check which ones (I forget off the top of my head).

I don't touch the FOV King Tiger with all the Frontline Figures on it. I just hope we don't have another earthquake anytime soon. Thanks for the tip on the retired vehicles.
