New Crimean War Series - Good & Bad (2 Viewers)

Good points all. With a standard gloss cavalry piece coming in at $40-$45 retail, a 4 piece set would be priced between $160-$180 (using one box as opposed to four saves a little money and might mean the set comes in closer to $175 than $180). Most retailers seem to base their shipping charges on dollar amount, so my guess is at the end of the day the shipping would be pretty darn close between buying four singles all at once and one complete set at once?

Now I have also heard the argument for having only one box to store and that one box is more in the traditional Britains style - could not agree more on this one. But, and this as Ken pointed out is a big one - how many folks today are ready to drop $160-$180 in a visit to the store or in one order? A fair few still I would say, but not enough to make it viable.

Having been to many retailers - brick and mortar as well as mail order over the years I have seen with my very own eyes, folks buy 4 Redcoats at once but be completely aghast when considering buying a set for $80 (do the math?). A holloween experiment was done - with adults - they were offered three Hershey kisses or one king size Hershey bar - what did they choose every single time? The three kisses (1/3 the chocolate).

So, will we ever make sets again? - probably - as Ken mentioned we have plans for an infantry set, if it does well, then who knows.

If Britains does decide to continue to issue the calvary figures individually, surelly that won't leave us hanging with only 5 mounted troops to represent the over six hundred that rode into the Valley of Death. :(

Yo Trooper Skeet, looks like the end of the cavalry for us Troopers. I can honestly say I cannot see one item getting made now or in the future that has any interest for me. Looks like I will just have to stay with the real Toy Soldier Makers, OLD BRITAINS. Still need a couple of cavalry regiments that where never made, but I know who can do them for me now, and as good as the Old Britains sets. I think the day of the traditional Toy Soldier has gone, but as they say old soldiers never die they just fade away.

THROUGH MUD AND BLOOD TO GREEN FIELDS BEYOND.

Did you read my email? We are starting with Infantry and will see how it goes. Sometimes I think some of you folks would love to see Britains either remain in 1920 or if not just go out of business - correct me if I am wrong?

Perish the thought. I think you all get better with each new release. You know the old saying, "...but you can't please all of the people all of the time.;)

Definitely wrong. Take our suggestions as hopes that Britains will always be the premier manufacturer when it comes to toy soldiers. I can't ehlp that I also love the vintage Britain sets and while pleased with the new figures coming out, don't be offended by my yearning for days of old.

Ultimately, Britains has to do what they think will make a profit. I think we all realize that fact. No continued profit, No company, period!

That said, I'm sure that constructive suggestions are surely welcomed.

I would like to see some aditional releases for the Crimean War Series, but it doesn't seeem like that is going to happen anytime soon. I will just wait and maybe purchase some other figures to fill the gaps. I will still remain in the Britains Club and be a fan of their products.

Hopefully my wait won't be too long.

To put your mind at ease a bit...there will be some additions to the Crimea and other periods in the Redcoats series...including some mounted figures.
