Thanks for the history lesson on these three Tigers Joe. I was unaware of the specifics on them. I need to catch up on a few books I guess. Anyways I have ordered a few things from Atlantic toys in the past. Sometimes cheaper but sometimes not.Great service though. I have found Burbank House of Hobbies to be the cheapest so far with the Dragon line at this present time. Believe me I have shopped around. I still can't believe the detail on the Nashorn's in the 1/72 scale, especially the insides. I am pretty much Tiger'd out at this point in both scales and am just about to my limit with the Panther so the new 1/72 Sherman will be a welcome edition when it finally gets released. The down side to all of this is the price has steadily risen with less die-cast being used in the moulds. Looking back through my records showed that I paid $9.99 for the first release Wittman Tiger and for the most part the first twenty releases were $11-13 range. Now prices are slowly creeping towards the $20 mark. What would a post be without a complaint,right? Oh well I need another curio for the next shipment...

diorama,etc.i too am tigered out and panthered out.i noticed one thing while modeling dragon tanks -they have been releasing their dragon 3 n1 kits for modelers.the winter tank was made and released last feb.2005 as a model kit to be put together so anything beiong released in kit form by dragon will also be released as a already built dragon armor series-i expect the following to
be released in next 8 months-late tiger 1 w/zimmerit,several panthers and
what i am waiting for panzer iv's from ausf.b-h's short barrels and long barreled models-i expect the panzer iv's to be hot in 1/35th scale-i had no clue who sold the dragon armor series the cheapest-i saw several of the
past dragon topics and several places were mentioned-the first dragon
tunsian tiger 1 was tough to find -only dealer having it now is www.monkeydepot.com i got mine 2 weeks ago and he told me he had the largest amount shipped to him-not cheap-92.00 but when i considered the cost of a kit,spray gun,8-10 tins of paint,brushes,brass photo-etch parts,

Yes Joe, it is good to keep informed of new releases. I got an order coming from Great Models, mainly paints and supplies and a few Dragon figure kits. I also order from Squadron. I still enjoy 1/35 models and 1/72. I know most people are K&C collectors. John

nothing wrong with k&c tanks and new honorbound tanks i just do not like
tanks with molded wheels to frame in resin-i feel resin is very fragile.i had a
britain tank made of resin and softcover landed on it-large chips of resin came off-threw tank out and i do not mind paying for extra detail.for 1/35th figures check out these sites

for diaramas michaels art store sells wooden plague bases-perfect for 1/35
tanks-beveled edges-stain with cheap stain or arcylic paint they sell there.
get a cheap can of wall spackle already made and mix ground color acrylic
paint 50/50 .when it is like thick soup-sprey on wooden base-i use real dirt-
shift minute particles out of dirt and bake in microwave for 20 secs on 8-9.
kill microcobic cooties in dirt-as wallspackle with dirt color paint is still
wet -spread dirt evenly and folage(lichen from trainstore).dry leaves(cut very tiny)and apply while wall spackle is wet -not real soaking wet but damp.
if you have rubber tank tracks left over press into wet spackle.michaels sell
small wooden plaguesthat are perfect for a 1/35th scale tank-i also used
a rubber cobblestone street to fit on several of these small plagues.
go to www.armorama-on left you will see kabali (not correct but close)diarama supplys.check out items and site shows how to paint and use the
cobblestone street cover-made of rubber and they can be cut with scissors.

they have numerous articles up top to show you how to paint figures,do diaramas,model tanks,etc.-hope i gave you guys some ideas-i feel these nice tanks need a nice setting to really look good.joe

Thanks again Joe for a very informative addition to the thread. I checked out a couple of the website addresses you provided. I did find them a little deep to navigate. Its probably because my patience level for this search stuff is very low. I'll throw this question out there. Are there any other 1/35 German tanker crews prepainted, plastic or metal that will match up to these Dragon tanks? Besides the Dragon Can-do line of course.I already purchased those,without the bonus fig though. Could not find that one. Heck I would even take a suggestion for non-painted ones, as one day I hope to take a stab at painting some of these. Leadman,Joe,anyone????

I got my Dragon winter Tiger. It is nice but I touched one grab handel on turret cover and came loose- might be plastic. It did not break. I am keeping it in box for now but liked it with interior finished. Challenger, Do you find that the new Dragon tank kits with individual track links hard to assemble? I am hesitant to order any from Great Models because I hate "fiddeling" with little pieces of links> I did get some figure kits to paint. Leadmen

leadman-i really cannot tell you about modeling skill putting together
a dragon tank kit-i bought the dragon 3 in 1 initial tiger 1 kit.first the instuctions are very complex as you can make 3 different versions of
the tank-i am using this kit as a example.you need patience up the ying ying.i have been building models for 40 years but found the dragon models very complex to put together-maybe it was just me-question leadman-think
about the cost of the kit,paints and you will have to get a good spraygun.

parts very nerve wrecking.leadman for the money the dragon armor already
made 1/35th scale tanks are the best buy on the market-you are having a artisan putting this kit together for you,place cost of kit,paints,and a spraygun,modeling tools,photo etch bender,etc-we are getting a highly
crafted model tank cheap-i do not have the patience and $150.00 alone
for a good spraygun.i am leaving my tanks right on the plastic display stand
inside the box-i beleive these tanks are going to be collectible in a couple of years.bad news-dragon is coming out with another tiger 1 model-i do not know which version it is-i feel it has to be a late version with ambush camo and zimmerit as the tiger 1 late model kit came out same time as initial tiger 1 kit and it seems that is whAT dragon armor is putting out together-i am tigered out myself-saving what little roomi have left for storage for when dragon armor does somee panzer 1v versions-check out vinnie b. description

Yes Joe: I built Tamiya models and other kits for the last 30 years but have no desire to mess with track links or tiny photo-etched parts. Less patience for that. I still like figures and have all the supplies like airbrushes etc. so I do a kit once and awhile. I do like 1/72 prepainted Dragon armor. I got 4 models so far.I think modellers will move away from all this photo stuff that seems distacting and only applies to fanatics and bolt counters.I will not give up figures and nice kits. Also got FOV 88 gun yesterday. Not unpacked but it sure looks neat. John- Also, I got 1/72 finished landing craft diorama by Dragon. Neat.

LEADMAN-thanks it sounds like you are where i am -i tried putting the indivual track links together-just did not have the patience plus you have to make a
wheel jig to bend track so it forms to wheels-i did not mention the individual track making to you i forgot that horror story-some guys are buying metal
track links for 40.00 plus to try and make a plastic kit look more real.i collect
1/35th scale minichamps german ww2 tanks-98& die cast construction-heavy
also-they did a outstanding job on the king tiger with ambush pAINT THEME.
icouldn't dod that job in a hundred years.just started getting into 1/35th
scale dragon armor -biught tunsian tiger and initial tiger 1 with 2 side storage
bins #100.i hope they put out more than tiger's and panthers-have 2 panthers by minichamps -4 tigers-2 by minichamps and 2 dragons.i use dragon can do panzer crew figures to make diarama's with these tanks.i change the arms.heads,on other crew bodt trucks -headsjust pop off-
arms come off easily also.you might have to trim arm stub nob on body truck to properly fit doifferent arm to body.joe

leadman-i do not have any gorgitanks nor hve i ever seen one of them.
daytona is very limited for hobby stores-ft.lauderdale now-hobby store heaven.i love the minichamps 1/35th scale die cast tanks-the workmanship is the best-i started with fov tanks and then i got my first minichamps-they are
the only maker of tanks that are 100 % die cast except tools mounted on tank-i like the clean tank right right of the krupp factory look-i feel fov go
over board on the weathering-nice tank and variety-nice panzer iv ausf.d
with short barrel-my favorite tank-all hatches on minichamps are molded closed .if you want to look at various minichamps tanks and most other
already made tanks made for purchasing-check out www.mikesdiecasttanks.com.-scroll down to minichamps listed on left side.
and take a gander-go back and check other tanks by catagory that
interest you gorgi,etc-mike gives a far accessment of every company's
tank -=detail,die cast content,etc.-it's how i got hooked-joe

I like the Corgi tanks except for the off scale. They are slightly over weathered in some cases but do carry a heavy die-cast feel to them. I posted earlier that I bought one of the Sherman DD tanks. Very cool and for $15 it was well worth it. I also have a few of the planes and they are sure heavy. The Mini-champs line is too factory fresh looking for me and a little high in the price zone for my budget...just my opinion..

and aren't the gorgi ww2 plane die cast-i can only collect so much-in florida
we have no attics or basements.i collect lionel trains and 1/35th scale tanks.
the boxes to the tanks take a lot of room but for collectibility you have to

Cyber-Hobby Tiger I (Init.Prod.) Abt.502 #100

This is an attempt at resurrecting an older thread. With all the discussions on the latest Tiger models by companies such as CS and K&C, I thought it would be a nice idea to revisit a model that came on the market several years ago.

This posting also is to reflect my own approach to "historical accurateness" which has been a topic on the board as well.

I found the Tiger photos and their descriptions used in this posting (except my own of course) in this book from Russia which is available for sale from various sources on the internet:

P.S.: And as soon as you mention "historical accurateness", you fall into your own trap. These tankers are of course not historically accurate. Au contraire. But that is Dragon's fault: to my knowledge they have not issued any tankers that fit a 1942/43 tank. Recommendations for appropriate German tankers from other manufacturers are highly welcome.

But I do like this set of Tiger aces because I can squeeze the figures into the opening of the tank hatches:
