Hi guys,

man, feels weird being over here ha!!!! hope to have my new collection started with First Legion by the end of next week, have heard so many great things about First Legion, can't wait to get the first sets as well as the vehicles. Being a long time collector of K&C, I missed out on alot of the retired stuff, but with First Legion I think I'll be able to catch up from last years releases and not be so tied up with trying to find the retired stuff, and it drove me nuts, (as well as the wife) since First Legion releases are not as many, I can collect at a slower pace, but still collect a top rate product from the very beginning.
Matt has answered many questions for me and seems to be a stand-up, strait forward kind of person, and has a great vision of where the WWII series is headed.
Any First Legion guys out there on WWII that can leave me some feedback on thier First Legion collection please do...Sammy

sammy,
welcome on board the FL train!

i started slowly with FL's WW2 stuffs, got the tan stug and tank riders. and now waiting impatiently for the 232 and flamethrower team.

simple to say, you won't be dissapointed my friend.:)

Hi Sammy,
Welcome to the wonderful world of hand held history that is First Legion.
I see that you are selling off your King & Country collection on ebay and getting some big bucks for the stuff. With the money you are getting you should be able to get caught up with the Stalingrad line reel quick. I'm sure you will not be disappointed when you receive your first order of goods . You are getting on board at a good time for the WWII line everything is still available from the web site . You wont have to go hunting for items and paying outrages prices. Well I just wanted to make you feel welcome, I look forward to your review of your first order . All the Best Gebhard ;)

I may become a FL collector as Matt says I will be interested in a new range coming out.I'm a FIW collector. We'll see.:)

Welcome, Sammy!

I am not solely a collector of FL figures, but they are no doubt as mentioned by many on this board, very outstanding miniatures. I primarily collect their Napoleonic range, so far just the British Guards... but looking forward to adding some of their new Samurai range to my collection as well. I am very anxious to learn what surprise they have in store for us all, once their new range is revealed... I'm hoping for something in the Ancient or Middle Ages eras. FIW would be nice, but I already have a substantial collection from JJD of these, so that would be a non-starter for me... If I were a WW2 collector, I would think that this range is top-notch from the pictures I've seen and from some of the collector's dioramas posted. Enjoy! :)

Welcome to the bright side mate. I have been a FL collector since they released their French Napoleonics and it is all beautiful stuff. WWII is not of interest to me but you will certainly have some quality items to chose from given what I have seen. Their buildings can be used for many periods, including yours.

Sammy, Glad to see you're not giving up soldier collecting - just making an ajustment. I did the same thing and sold off my prior collection, you even helped me out a little with that. I too will be starting up with FL very shortly, but will begin with Prussian Napoleonics. Good Luck.

Dragoon,
SWEET !!! Another fan of the Prussians soon to be joining the fold . My collection of First Legion Napoleonic figures covers just about all the releases thus far ( and some of the Stalingrad line)and although they are all Fantastic, the Prussians are simply unbelievable .. I'm still Praying for a Prussian staff set :D:D:D:D:D:D I think you guys are getting out while the getting is still good . Take the MONEY and run !! All the best Gebhard

I found Sammy's threads here and on K&C quite an interesting comparator-from a defined "the collection must go" for a whole raft of personal and completely understandable reasons-
to "I just can't give this hobby up so I'll stick with one manufacturer". Albeit a different one from his previous choice.

I assure you I infer no criticism-trying to keep up with a plethora of new as well as old releases and chasing that elusive must have in one's collection is a self inflicted malady I'm sure we have all suffered from-I know I have many times but if any of you are like me I find that the flush of ardour quickly cools once you have the piece in your clammy hands-and it's been placed on your shelf or your dioramic battlefield. Within a couple of days your off on the hunt again to track the next must have. The fun of collecting then can become an obsession which can only be tempered by two caveats-your budget and your display area. Cross the line on either of these and you can get into a whole passle of trouble. First one speaks for itself but I know dozens of collectors who have oversized their miniature armies to such an extent that 50% has to go into storage or as Brad (Jazzeum)very aptly describes as "warehousing one's collection". Either that or it's a divorce ;)

As stated on another thread moderation is the key to this equation and it is far from easy to master. My interest in TS has endured since childhood and in the span of a decade I have amassed quite a collection of ACW figures and I have bounced freely from one manufacturer to another buying whatever caught my eye and mixing/matching my figures accordingly. The majority of them are fine looking figures whilst others are so frightful that they are either relegated to the rear ranks or completely mustered out of my army. My favored era is usually found near the forum basement where very few froggers venture simply because that particular era comes nowhere near the popularity of WWII or Napoleonic collecting. This basic fact in itself is a blessing for me because I find I am not having to chase the vast campaigns of either of those eras with their massive variety of uniforms; AFV's etc and continually having to decide which parts of those eras shall I concentrate my collecting on only having to change my mind every month when a whole new but completely different raft of splendid figures and pieces are released. All of my troops are either dressed in blue or butternut/gray with just a few horsedrawn vehicles and new ACW figures are very slowly released by the few manufacturers who produce them.

So why add these meanderings to this FL thread?-Simply because I firmly believe that Sammy could find himself-a few miles down the road- in the exact same position as he currently is with his K&C collecting- chasing the must haves and the FL must haves will-trust me-be every single piece. I base this on having seen up close and personal most of the FL figures and diorama pieces set up on WWII & Napoleonic mini-battlefields and they are without any doubt absolutely magnificent with some of the best sculpting and painting I have ever seen produced on 54mm miniatures so much so a collector would want them all!

In conclusion-I wish Sammy all the best in his new venture with FL and sincerely hope the above is taken as it is meant- just some gentle comments- because heaven forbid if FL ever went ACW I too in very quick time would find myself in a whole passle of trouble-I just wouldn't be able to stop myself :D

Sorry U.K. Reb,

there will be no same paths here as before, I am interested in only WWII, no naps/or anything else for that matter, and since First Legion releases are released at a slower pace I have no desire to have to chase the older retired sets, because thiere are none at the moment:)
but yes I do plan on collecting the entire line on WWII, maybe I'm a completist, just could never be happy missing out on so many earlier K&C sets that it was like a drug, when can I get to the next retired piece ha!!! so thank you Reb for your reply and being myself a good 'ol southern boy from the great state of Virginia I must say that I love your nickname as U.K. Reb!!! heres to a new beginning...sort of speak...Sammy

That is true is you limit yourself to WWII; there are some retired Napoleonics. I think you will be very happy with your choice but I wouldn't count on the moderate release schedule to continue indefinitely. I think these lads are just getting warmed up.;)

Sammy's point is he won't be chasing four of five different manufacturers releases as well as trying to get retired sets he is missing all at the same time.

FL is heavily involved in Napoleonics, are doing a Samurai launch and of course, the yet to be determined new era that all of you are trying to figure out what will cover.

That said, FL is releasing WWII sets at a managable pace for someone new like Sammy, despite you thinking the lads are just getting warmed up (which they are, but all in due time).................
