Just saw last night a new book for those who enjoy 18th-century uniforms. It is from the publisher Pen & Sword and is titled British Army Uniforms of the American Revolution, 1751-1783. Though it says American Revolution, one would have to assume the FIW is included as well, given the dates in the title. Abstract on the publisher website says it will include "more than 200 full-colour plates of uniforms and distinctions" among its 320 pages, so it sounds pretty worthwhile.

It is scheduled to be out later this month, but Amazon actually lists it as a March release.

Here are the links:

I put it on my wish list at Amazon. The price is down to around $33 now, which is not bad at all.

I've had recommendations from some friends on other forums and it sounds like it will be a valuable addition to our libraries.

Prost!

That's great Brad. I'm really looking forward to this title.

Also, for everyone else, it appears the publisher link in my original post no longer goes directly to the book's webpage. However, you can still search for the book at the Pen & Sword site.

Anybody have a lead on where to get this book? It has never been 'in stock' anywhere, despite the April release date. Everywhere I have looked, from the big online sellers to the smaller shops, I have not been able to find this. Anyone know its status?

The release date has been pushed back a couple of times now. I had pre-ordered it at Amazon, and eventually, they cancelled it. I went to the publisher's website, and they list an October 2012 release, and no explanation about the delays. Very frustrating!

Might have to contact the publisher directly about this.

Thanks guys. I see that it is back up on the Pen and Sword site, though it must have been reposted just in the last day or two. I have never ordered directly from them, but I may have to in order to get this book.

Just recieved it, It is an excellant book, an excellant if not better companion to the Napoleonic Version.

Finally got a copy of this from UK distributor for $50. Overall, I am happy with the book. The CAD artwork for the uniforms is well done and there is decent detail about minor uniform elements such as underclothing and accoutrements. My main issue with the book is the section which lists the regimental information, which includes uniform history and brief unit history. This section could have been organized a little better, as there is nothing to highlight the transition in text from one unit to the next. A simple use of bold text in the regiment's name would have helped to seperate the regimental sections. In any case, it is a small issue and one that should not keep anyone from picking up this book.
