:D:D Well its bank holiday Sunday and nothing on the tv mate!!!.Time for an anti Nazi Rant!

Nuthin' on the TV? My heart bleeds for you Rob. You need to try what I've been having to watch for the past couple of weeks. :( Still, maybe get my hands on my DVD's sometime next week. When I do, I intend watching all of "The World At War" in one fell swoop. Hope Little Boss has got some good coffee bought in. :)
And anytime is a good time for an anti Nazi rant IMO......;)

YES ! Harry - I want to do that as well.

I love that World At War Series - I remember back in the 70's when it first came out on American TV - I use to watch each broadcast with my father who was a WWII vet.

He would give me color commentary on what was going on in America in the early years - then tell me what he was doing in the Military at the time after 12/7/41 - during each episode.

When my Dad reported for Active Duty in Kansas - he was in the National Guard in Kansas and his unit was a Calvary Unit ! ;) - his horse was named Belle. He went into the Army Air Corps. - No horses there !

Ron,
In the UK, The World at War is regarded as the definitive BBC documentary series concerning WW2.
I have another set of BBC DVD's on WW2 that I bought in Dubai, but its individual programs, not a series. Pretty good though. I think one of the programs was mentioned on another thread - "War of the Century", which dealt with the Eastern Front. In addition, one of the other DVD's is called "Horror in the East" and as the name implies concentrates on the Pacific and Far East. One horrific scene is where young Japanese schoolgirls, some as young as 14, are seen throwing themselves off cliffs to their deaths - because they'd been fed propaganda about what the Americans were going to do to them when they invaded the Home Islands. They are quite harrowing images.
Rest of the set deals with Dunkirk, D-Day, Monte Cassino, El Alemein, etc. I can thoroughly recommend the entire set as it treats events in a pretty even-handed manner.

Ron,

The name of the series is actually BBC History of World War II and here are the actual DVDs:

"The Nazis: A Warning From History." - On the reasons behind the rise and fall of the Nazis

"The Road To War." - On how Britain, Italy, Japan and the USA entered the war

"Dunkirk." - On the evacuation from Dunkirk (Drama)

"War of the Century." - On the Russo-German war

"Battle Of the Atlantic." - On the U-boats and the Atlantic convoys

"Horrors Of The East." - On the Japanese Army and the Asia-Pacific war - Supplements on the Indian Army and the Burma War

"Battlefields." - On El Alamein, Monte Cassino, Arnhem and RAF Bomber Command (the firebombing of German cities)

"D-Day: Reflections of Courage." - On the events surrounding D-Day (Docu-drama)

"D-Day To Berlin." - On the breakout from Normandy, Ops Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge and the German surrender (Docu-drama)

"Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State." - On the Nazis' conceptualisation and implementation of the Final Solution (Docu-drama)

Anyone interested in history should have this. It's that good.

Thanks Brad,
I was unaware that it is sold as a set outwith the UAE. Yeah, its good, but only if you've a strong stomach. Several of the images on some of the DVD's are as I've said, quite harrowing. In especial for us Brits some examples would be, the massacre of our troops by the SS during the retreat to Dunkirk - and accounts of the fall of Hong Kong.

An', an', after that, it'll be;
Band of Brothers - all in one go
The Sand Pebbles
SPR
Kelly's Hero's
The Dirty Dozen
The Guns of Naverone
High Road to China
The Malta Story
Cockleshell Hero's
Charge of the Light Brigade

And by the time I get through that little lot, it'll be time to go back to work and Little Boss will be glad to see the back of me.....
I'm aware this is the wrong thread guys but bear with me, its at least 2 months since I've been able to watch any of the above. :)

Hello Harry,

You have posted this a couple months before. I’m still interesting

Debrito,
looking through your posts again, I think you're looking for a DVD which isn't in the World At War series.
"War of the Century" is in a different BBC series. I'll get my hands on my copy sometime over the next 2 or 3 weeks. I can copy it easily enough to my laptop. So post me a PM if you want me to send the original DVD to you.

Debrito,
I still haven't got our stuff released by Chinese customs. As soon as I get my hands on that DVD set - I'll let you know. I'll be able to post you my original copy when I return to Dubai on 14th September. That's a promise.

H-the-h.
"Kellys Heros'" great movie! It would be alot o' fun to do up a Street scene Stand-Off between Kelly, the Boys and the Tiger.
O.C.
"..again with the negative waves Motiorty!!"

The Wind and the Lion, anyone? That movie makes me want to be a Marine...

Yeah OC, I've thought about that street scene as well. Could I bring myself to try and convert one of the HB shermans to look like Oddball's? Probably not that brave, but it might be a possible future project for a spare FoV sherman just to see how it turns out.

Debrito,

At long last, I finally have your DVD "War of the Century" sitting in my hot, sticky little hands. :) I can post it to you from Dubai on 14th September. Please send me a PM with your full postal address.

Best Regards
H

By the way, has anyone received "Collector Magazine" #18 for the Summer of 2007 yet? I haven't seen it yet myself. If it hasn't been released yet, isn't it later than normal?

Nope Rob you have the correct info. It's a double sized collectors collectors edition of Collector. It might even have a shiny cover and be a limited collectors edition.

wow i've spent too much of my life reading US comics! :)
