Hello all,

I wanted to post a photo or two of our newest release: Part A of a three-part terrain set depicting Gettysburg's infamous Devil's Den. For those of you who were at the Chicago Show, you might have seen this one in person.

Part B (coming late 2010/early 2011) will "mate" with Part A to create a 36" long formation designed for shelf or tabletop. Expect plenty of flat places for figures.

Part C will then extend the scene back and up towards Houck's Ridge (coming mid 2011) .

Like our Mountain Pass, each piece with be available in a fully painted version or what we call "primed plus." We've got more photos on our website if you want a closer look: www.traversedioramics.com

Happy Holiday Collecting,

Dimensions

Oh, and here's the dimensions of Part A: 19" W x 12.5" D x 6" H

That's really nice looking. It's nice to see a terrain piece of a specific place.

Thanks, Marcos. We did base the sculpt very closely on the actual Devil's Den formation (pictured below).

On the other hand, since everything represented is "organic" (rock, earth, foliage, etc.), there is nothing to pin it down to a specific period or place. The upshot is that it will serve quite well in a number of other theaters of war...really anything that has a boulder-strewn landscape. Oh, and we decided to leave out the National Park Service bathroom, quaint as it is.

Mark not Marcos,

Sorry for the name miscue...fingers outrunning the brain again.

That is really very cool Dave! I gotta tell you, I graduated from Gettysburg College (95) and spent many hours on the battlefield. The pictures of Devils Den included in your post are kind of shocking to me because I havent been back there in a while to see some of the historical landscape improvements the NPS has completed on the battlefield. Seeing that area without all of the former forest that used to surround it is really interesting! What a great piece to produce....very cool you are using actual photographs and topography to recreate that memorable place! I would be happy to own all three pieces someday!!

Have you been to the new visitor's center there yet? If you haven't, I highly recommend it to anyone within driving distance. They really did a super job and that battlefield deserved something on par with its national and historical significance. The cyclorama presentation is very well done and the artifacts are finally properly displayed.

Very well done!!! I think this time we can take Little Round Top!!!

Thyer,

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like it. I'd be happy to have you own all three pieces some day, too.:D But no, I have not had a chance to get out to see the new visitor's center. What do you think of the recent improvements? I wonder what the general concensus is on their fitness. Were they done well? Well researched? Maybe one of the Gettysburg historians will weigh in.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks, Bama Boy. But beware the bayonet charge! Those Maine boys have ice in their veins, being so far North and all.

Pretty sure they researched the heck out of it. These landscape improvements have been a long time in the works, and moving the visitors center was a major part of that. Some significant action occurred on the old site during Picketts Charge, not to mention where the Cyclorama was formerly positioned. As far as the forest removal goes, they used period action reports and old photographs to reconstruct the 'lay of the land'. One thing that was unknown to me was the amount of orchards that existed during the time of the battle. Apparently they were all over the cemetery ridge area and vicinity. Its definitely eye opening after spending a portion of my life in that town. What an awesome place Gettysburg is, if you ever find yourself in Pennsylvania, you'll be kicking yourself if you don't go...

I visited recently,,an amazing place, the visitor center is outstanding

Visitor's center is indeed outstanding. For newcomers you would never be able to figure out where the old center was. Also, the deforestation around devil's den and the slaughter pen is amazing. The triangular field is no longer. Easy now to see now why NY had a battery up on that rise now that the forest behind it has been cleared. I'm a big civil war buff and artillelrist and surprise myself that I have not collected the figures. maybe this will change things. Will you be providing any ghosts for the landscape??? Lord knows there are enough spirits still hanging around there.

Bill,
No ghosts in the plan, but very possibly the infamous dead Confederate sniper...even if he was dragged and posed a bit for the photo.

Best,
Dave

Dave,

When is your tree line going to be available?

Thanks

Fraxinus,

Thanks for the inquiry. We've had a couple of delays on our foliage line while we sort out production issues. I apologize for the wait. You can look for first releases in February 2011 if things go smoothly here out. I do have at least two "one-of-a-kind" trees available. If you're interested, feel free to email or pm me.

Best,
Dave

Please keep us informed on that devolpment and put some pictures up of your line. Thanks
Mark
