Worlds Apart Ltd are introducing a series of 60mm swappet type figures based on the 'Horrible Histories' series of children's books. There are Roman and Egyptian playsets and figure packs, plus a series of historical characters in individual bagged counter packs. This will be a great way of getting kids introduced to and interested in toy and model soldiers, particulary as they are near standard size in scale.
Also seen as part of the range were 1870s British Infantry as test shots.
I will try and put up a link to their website asap

That should be fun. I've seen a few of these shows on Youtube.

I have seen several Horrible History episodes on TV, I'm sure it has increased history awareness in children and not a few adults.

As I said these would be a great way to get `kids into historical figures and any company that get's toy soldiers back on the shop shelves isn't all bad

Interesting, but real toyish. The mystery bag thing seems to be big with some companies now. Go to TRU and you will see a half dozen different companies doing this. Both Lego and Playmobil are also doing this now. The figures seem very stiff with not a lot of possibilities to do things with them other than put them on a shelf. We'll just have to wait and see how these go. They could be the hit of 13 for all I know.

I think that the point has been made that they ARE toys, but it's a good thing that someone is actually doing historical figures, albeit cartoony, in a traditional scale aimed at kids.
There's a hell of a lot more stiff and akward metal figures at silly prices for sale to 'serious' 'adult' collectors{sm2}
