Anybody have any ideas on and when the new ranges maybe announced? Maybe in Sept at the Chicago Toy soldier show? I am still not convinced that the collectors figures are a clue? What do you think will be released NOT what do you HOPE will be released? Example love to see Custer/Indians but highly doubt it, but everyone seems to think something to do with Flashman who I am still reading up on, what do you think? Forum has been a little dull latley use some imagination!!

Hi Joel, I think something along the lines of the Afghan Wars or NW Frontier may be a good possibility, but admittedly that is based upon the collectors club figures you referred to. The Boer War is another big area not previously done to my knowledge. Egypt and Sudan have been done by K&C before but in gloss. Just cannot imagine what else.

I hear alot about the NW Frontier and what it that? Thanks Joel

The NW Frontier refers to the area between India and Afghanistan which is now, of course, Pakistan. The British and Indian armies saw a lot of action in this region between the 1870's to the 1890's or so fighting against the various tribes inhabiting the area.

No offense MD but I hope K@C comes up with something better than that? Gotta be a better theatre than that?

I see no reason to take offense Joel, just answering your question based on what clues I have at hand that's all.

Joel,
The only person on this forum that shouts for a Flashman range is me, and that's invariably tongue in cheek - not meant to be taken too seriously.
In addition, while we all have our pet era's, cowboys being your's, there are a few people here who are fans of figures pertaining to the 19th Century British Empire. These collectors would welcome Sepoy Mutiny, Afghanistan 1842, Zulu War, Boer Wars or NW Frontier, etc.
You obviously don't know much about the conflicts on the NW Frontier or the history behind the Great Game as it was sometimes referred to. May I suggest some further reading of Peter Hopkirk or even Rudyard Kippling before you blast Mr Dave for simply responding to your posts in his helpful manner.

BTW, how old are you..??

Regards

Hopkirks The Great Game; The struggle for Empire in Central Asia, what a great book to bad more people haven't read it:(. Might generate more interest in figures from this era. Personally, I like the idea for this range especially the Indian figures.

That's probably the one I'm presently re-reading. In the UK it's called On Secret Service In High Asia.
Have you read his book about Younghusbands expedition to Tibet? It's a page-turner.

Cheers

I think that's the same one, good book!:) Haven't read the one on Younghusband though, sounds interesting I'll have to try and pick up a copy for something to read while I hop over the pond and buy up all those reserved TRL... OOPS...Crimeny! the plans out!:D;)! Guess I'll have to borrow CCs sombrero so I can travel incognito:eek::D.

A couple of observations:

First, the ranges are going to be something that hasn't been done in a toy soldier before. This was discussed back in March around the time of the West Coaster. So, that leaves out anything mentioned in this thread. Andy won't say what they are except what they are not: no Flashman, no Franco Prussian War, for example.

Second, and further to Harry's posts, the Northwest Frontier and India, in general, is a fascinating period of history, probably one of the most interesting. I have always been intrigued by India ever since I was a kid and would love to get there. In the toy soldier world, this has been visited and the results are wonderful: Somerset's ranges, Delhi Durbar, Camel Corps, Britain's Sepoy Mutiny (wish I had the room for that). In my view, and only my view, a lot of more interesting than cowboys, etc.

In addition to the suggested reading, you might find Queen Victoria's Little Wars an interesting read. A brief survey of some wars from the 19th century. Author is Bryan Farwell.

For some reason the Boer war has never cracked teh nod as a major theme. I am not sure why as there are bibliophiles and militaria collectors who really collect the Boer war in a big way. The Zulu from 20 years before is a major seller. I would love to see Boer war, but seriously doubt it. Maybe Sudan would be a better bet.

Yes, this is a very intriguing business. Really have trouble thinking of never before been done subjects that would appeal to a broad range of collectors, but....the obvious upside is that the surprise factor is potentially great. We shall wait and see. Plenty of current business to attend to in the mean-time. :)

I was not blasting anyone, just stating my opinion I am 39. Still my opinion there would be better lines then what is stated above. IMO Thanks Joel

Didn't ANdy say that they were ranges not done before by K and C and definitely not WWII. To be honest that does not leave a hell of a lot of options. I think K and C hase covered a lot of eras.

Not done at all, ever by any toy soldier maker, or not done by K&C? This is a good guessing game:D

Just to clear this up for ya, I am not intrested in cowboys I would have to agree that would be a little dull. I am intrested in the Indain Wars Custer, Sitting Bull 7th Calvary etc. Big difference between the Indian Wars and Cowboys I have a whole list of Indian Wars books fantastic reading if you like I can sent them to you? Thanks Joel

For one of the new myterious range, my guess is Far West. Something like SOHK but in the West.

For the other, ???

Pierre.
