Just read this in today's UK papers that EON has stated that development of the new Bond23 movie is suspended until the financial status of MGM (The home of the Bond movies) has been resolved. Apparently the studio giant is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and a potential new customer has now pulled out of the negotiations. Not sure how Broccoli's distribution deal with MGM is written-will they be able to pull out before another possible buyer is found?

The new movie was originally planned for 2010 then rescheduled for 2011 with Sam Mendes pencilled in to direct but if this financial wrangling goes on it could now be 2012 just in time for the JBMovies 50th Anniversary if that's the case five will get you ten there'll be a new "M" in the cast-if not a new Bond.

Sorry to hear this. I am looking forward to the next 007 film, with Craig, I hope. I like the new, harder edge the new 007 has. -- Al

Lancer: yes I agree. I am a Connery fan for this role, have been ever since Dr No. Fleming himself approved of him being in the lead for this series. Craig however, does grow on you and he has done a good job so far...........ANYONE BUT ROGER MOORE, who almost single handidly ruined the series!!!.....Stryker

Update on BBC TV this morning is that the suspension has now had the prefix of "indefinitely" added. It appears- although not fully explained- that EON Productions cannot contractually pull out of MGM until either it completely collapses or a new buyer is found and the Bond franchise is the only golden egg in a pretty ropey MGM basket that would attract a buyer.

But with a 2 billion dollar debt and offers way less than the asking price of 1.3billion it dont look good for the lion.

Something I didn't know is that MGM do not own outright the DVD distribution rights of the Bond movies that gold nugget is in 20th Century Fox's back pocket-curious said Alice!

Moore's Live and Let Die (1973) was fun but his later Bond movies "jumped the shark"

# The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

# Moonraker (1979)

# For Your Eyes Only (1981)

# Octopussy (1983)

Thanks much for the news Bob, however sad in this case. I was hoping for a new Craig Bond film, WITH A NEW DIRECTOR. The first was great, the second poorly cut and directed but with some good acting and stunts.
