Guys

I picked these fellahs up at the London show. They are just 4 of 24 in the series 54mm metals commissioned by Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire. Saturday was his first showing of these and I bought the first sets from him.
No actual manufacturer stated but they remind me of Heritage with Frontline expressions.
He said he had identified a gap of a darn good cavalry charge within all of the ACW series (He is right about that although Ken Osen has started to rectify that with the Britains future cavalry releases and I know Frontline have sets of them but their horses are not realistic enough in my book) and if succesful he will add to the range. However he has already commissioned a six horse Confederate gun carriage and limber which I have placed an order for based on the 24 figures he had at the show.

Overall I am quite pleased with them, good poses and with a bit of improvisation and repaint will suit my Wilderness dio thread.

This guy with a pants repaint, insignia added, removal of the carbine, facial hair grayed could be a spit for Lee at the Wilderness when he grabbed the Texas flag until the shout went up "Lee to the rear" The horse is also a good fit for Traveller

Bit more putty on the beard and this guy could be a mounted Longstreet.

And the whiskers on this guy has to be a good starting point for Burnside by turning the kepi into a turned down campaign hat. Not that Burnside ever drew his sword in anger but hell artistic licence and all that.

Good expression on this troopers face and Ken did say he was thinking of doing a Seventh Cavalry charge as the next venture as he is continually asked for Indian War US Cavalry and nobody else makes them.

Fully realise most of you here on the forum haven't the slightest interest in the US Civil War or the US Cavalry as very very few of you post any comments whatsoever on the era but I for one as an avid toy soldier fan whatever the era am sure pleased that a small dealer has had the guts to commission such a chancy venture and I say good luck to him and it can only be good for the hobby. That's why I've posted this.

Those a quite nice mate, I can see well why you snapped them up.:D I especially like the more realistic expressions and head treatment on the bay horses. I looks forward, as always, to seeing them drafted into service as part of your absorbing pictorial stories here.

BTW, to paraphase Quigley, "Just because I don't collect them, doesn't mean I don't appreciate them.";):D

Thanks mate knew you would appreciate them in fact I gotta idea you may just paint those plastic Spartans of yours blue and gray....that's if they ever turn up of course:D:D

Well I hope old Ken Jackson's artillery limber doesn't cost as much as his Celts and Romans. Britains had a great limber about 8 years ago. It was Union though. I regret not getting that.

Those look pretty nice Reb, and I agree the horses look better than the Frontline versions. I guess with all 24 of these guys and the Britains figures this Fall, you'll have a nice Cavalry battle in the works, and I am very much looking forward to seeing it. I'm afraid some of us distracted ACW fans must live vicariously through your enviably large and extensive collection. :)

Thanks again for the photos and news from the show.

Yes very nice figures Reb, thanks for posting. It is a bit weird that being an American forum that there isn't a wider following of the ACW. Wonder why that is

I agree it does seem weird that a U.S. based forum does not have a bigger ACW following, though I suspect they are out there lurking silently. In my case, as TS's go, I am too pre-occupied with 19th century British subjects to devote any substantial time or resources to this period which I am very much interested in and read a lot about. ACW and WWI both are the eras that I wish I could collect more aggressively.

I guess us americans are too busy collecting British figures! Nice swap with the Brits collecting American and us collecting them. Go 24th!

Post Script: Belated, but Thank You UKReb for the trip pictures, brightened my day ! Mike

I had a couple of hundred ACW figures but gave them to my younger cousins a few years ago as I got interested in the Crusades and Viking periods.I had all the Troiani sets from Conte, some of Britains Art of War series plus a lot of other sets.Really don't want to start over again.

Too bloody funny.

Bob I love my Conte "Lee Indomitable" My favorite Conte piece. Stayed away from the frontline stuff because their ACW stuff is too small. The faces I can deal with.

I do hope they stay with the new horse sculpts as they are much better.

Bob I love my Conte "Lee Indomitable" My favorite Conte piece.

Vamp fully agree it is one of Conte's most beautiful sculpts. It depicts Lee mounted on Traveller in one of his most iconic poses during one of the last battles of the war April 6 1865 at Saylor's/Sailor's Creek Lee's sees the small force of his remaining men falling back under attack from thousands of Union troops, Lee was heard to utter "My dear God, my army has dissolved" he then grabbed a Virginia battle flag in a glorious attempt to rally them.

It is however, not in my collection as this very pose is difficult to depict in any other scenario apart from the above. But as a stand alone display piece it's amongst the best.

Did contemplate purchasing it once at a TS show and removing the banner and remoulding the hand into a salute or wave  but on reflection decided it would be almost a butcherous sacrilege to deface the original

That does appear to be a beautiful sculpt overall and a very nice horse sculpt in particular. I think you need it Reb.;):D
