I loved that 4 new camel Dromedaries have been released this month as part of Napoleon's Oriental Expedition,

but I'm quite perplexed about the new Bugler NE032 !!!!

NE032(L).jpg

What I can't determine is what Regiment does this trooper come from??

From my resources I find that there were 5 mounted units:

  1. Hussars
  2. Chasseurs a Cheval
  3. Dragoons
  4. Guides a Cheval
  5. Dromedaries

The only unit that fits the new figure's uniform details in any way is the Trumpeter from the Guides a Cheval, but with some reservations.

My sources show a mid blue coat, and red piped blue lapels, sleeves with red pointed cuffs, red collar and red turnbacks with red/yellow aguilette on the left shoulder. He wears a bicorn hat with red over blue plume. The image I have depicts the trooper wearing blue trousers and a red waistcoat with yellow lace.

This new figure has mid blue coat, and red edged WHITE lapels, sleeves with red pointed cuffs, red collar and WHITE turnbacks with yellow aguilette on the left shoulder. He wears a bicorn hat with red over blue plume. This is trooper wearing BUFF trousers and a WHITE waistcoat with yellow lace.

So whats correct ????

Maybe Andy can enlighten me becasue I may be wrong, but if I buy this figure I think I'll need to do a remedial paint job to get it right (according to my sources)

Any comments on this uniform detail will be most welcome.

To fit in with the Dromedaries I would have prefered a bugler on a camel, becasue they all look SO GOOD.

Maybe a rename for NE032 should be considered from "The Bugler" to "Bugler - Guides a Cheval"

“LOOK OUT FOR NOVEMBER”
November is another “Bumper Month” ....

C .“NAPOLEON IN EGYPT”
This popular and colourful series just gets bigger and better… Here’s the latest…

“LES DROMADAIRES”
Faced with a desperate shortage of cavalry in Egypt, Napoleon ordered the formation of a regiment mounted on camels!
Instead of using regular cavalry he chose infantrymen from his many demi-brigades to make up the strength of his new unit.
These soldiers enjoyed the same privileges and pay as Dragoons and were uniformed in, as Napoleon described it, “The Oriental Style” with huge offwhite cloaks and baggy, loose fitting pantaloons.
Here are our first selection

NE028 “Camel Cavalier w/Musket” ....

NE029 “Camel Cavalier with Baggy red pantaloons”

NE030 “Camel Cavalier w/Rifle Across” ....

NE031 “The Leader” ....

NE032 “The Bugler” .... "

By K&C referring to these as the first selection, are we to expect a further installment of these desert mounted troopers ? Is this a fair assumption ?

If so, I would look forward to some mounted Guides too.

Bests
