New Napoleonics? (1 Viewer)

"Larso,
Would I be correct in my guess that you and I know "Jack"?.
Regards
Brett"

Yes, in that same sense as someone being 'known to the police'.

Well I am off to the coast now, where I will replace all images in my head of over-costumed soldiers with some of a very under-costumed type.

John

As always when Larso tries to be funny, it just seems creepy!

I found some pictures of the 71st Highland Light Infantry and it seems they had a reasonably weathered look too - at least in the sense of a patch or two on their trousers. I see these were the first issues by K & C of Napoleonic figures, can anyone tell me when they were first released?

As for my visit to the beach, there did indeed turn out to be many under-clothed figures on display. My wife totally forbade the collecting of any though......

She probably thinks that its just another thing you'll have to pay for!

Larso,

these guys were released in March 2003.

You can read all bout the release in the COLLECTORS magazine #2 on-line on the K&C Website

Enjoy...

Thanks Obee, I've found those very interesting.

Larso,

Yes, looking back on the old COLLECTORS magazines is a good way of seing how the older figures were promoted when they were first released.

Also, if you are looking for a catalogue of figures, goto the King and Country Databse http://cis.niagara.edu/kandc/ where the Release and Retired Dates are show, and the Original Cost price.... VERY interesting !!!!

Only a couple of months back I finally got the last figure in the 71st Foot range, from a fellow Treefrogger, so now I'l looking for some more of the Voltigueres that I'm missing, but I suppose they will turn up sometime for sale, but at a price !

Until then I'll keep on slowly collecting the current issues.

Glad to be of help, (and it helps start the day, when I get into the office  )

John

Again, a very interesting source there - in fact just what I needed to sort everything out. The only problem is I keep coming across things I now badly want, like those Voltigeurs!

You may wish to ease up a bit on the old retired pieces .. in addition to the new French infantry, there's going to be more new NE on the horizon (please see the new Christmas Collector thread) ;) ... and then of course we are also expecting the irresistable Horse Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard {sm3}

Yes indeed Old Dragon. Jack and I were lucky enough to be given copies of the new Collector at Brett's shop yesterday. We spent a happy half hour drinking creaming sodas and thrilling at all the toy soldiers to come (we are actually adults...). And yes, some Egyption stuff but no other Napoleonics to see yet.

I spent some time following up that link that Obee sent. Below is a rough list of the main releases and their release and retirement dates -

71st Highland Light Infantry (NA01 – 12, 30-32) Released 2003. Retired 2006.
French Grenadiers (NA13 – 16, 28, 33, 34) Released 2003. Retired 2008.
French Voltigeurs (NA17 – 24) Released 2003. Retired 2005.
Black Watch (NA48-55, 67, 68) Released 2004. Retired 2008/10 (& NA169 2009 – 11).
Imperial Guard (NA56 – 63) Released 2005.
Imperial Guard Artillery (NA64 – 66) Released 2005. Retired 2009.
Kings German Legion (NA69 – 76) Released 2005. Retired 2007.
Scots Greys (NA83 – 90) Released 2006.
Chasseur Cavalry (NA91 – 95) Released 2006. Retired 2009.
Royal Horse Artillery (NA96 – 99) Released 2006. Retired 2010.
French Line (NA100 – 110) Released 2006.
Cuirassiers (NA111 – 121) Released 2007. Retired 2009 (112, 113, 115,120)
Coldstream Guards (NA125 - 136) Released 2007. &
Russians (NA137 – 150) Released 2008. Retired 2009.
Imperial Guards II (NA151 – 157) Released 2008.
Dutch Lancers (NA159 – 167) Released 2009. Retired 2011.
Foot Dragoons (NA170 – 183) Released 2009. Retired 2011
Coldstream Guards (NA184 – 191, 193, 194) Released 2009.

Generally each 'unit' is available for at least three years or so. So enough time for me to get as many of any future release that I want, providing other lines don't demand too much of my budget. I was surprised to see yet another French cavalry unit (Chasseurs) that I didn't know about. They were mainly parade type figures, which aren't my focus but they did look very good.

"MapleLeaf
Re: New Napoleonics?

Larso the size variation is due morelikely to a change of sculptor"

Actually Mapleleaf your comment has got me thinking. I'm guessing that each new unit is likely sculpted by the same person to have as much consistency across the group as possible?

Just for the record - Larso and I drank creaming soda because there was no other option and we are, in fact, both in our mid forties and married...to other people!

Larso i was told by a good source that the change in size comes
from different sculptors for same range
That's why companies try to keep same sculptor for same range
but sometimes it's not possible for a reason or another.
To me it makes sense

Yes, I had meant to use the example of the RHA that Jack brought around to show me yesterday. Against the Black Watch they are noticeably leaner and clearly the work of a different hand. Considering that this range has been going since 2003, and that other ranges have seemed to have prominence, there's been plenty of scope for staff changes/turnover.

Just swapped a figure with Larso and he kept both! Beware Scandanavians offering good deals!

I wanted to put it in its box - well when I find it. But given they are both currently in my diorama it doesn't look very reputable of me......

A week ago Jack had no figures at all. Now, thanks to me, he has about 40. It was quite something to see the 12 cavalry he set up on my table today! I wonder whether his wife's support will continue once she sees their credit card statement???

Speaking of support, how do you explain your collection of Orcs?
