Today I received the two British mounted Dragoons from the Napoleonic period. They were packaged with tightly wound wiring and cardboard around various places on the horse and rider.
I used a needle nose pair of pliars to unwind the wiring but still managed to scratch the horses legs. I suppose you can use a miniature wire cutter but I don't happen to have one.
I appreciate TG's efforts to insure the integrity of their products in transit but I think this packaging is overkill and has the potential to cause chipping and cracking of the paint.
Any other comments from collectors would be appreciated.

I think other companies have tried this before. I am not a fan of it. As you noted it can cause chipping and other damage. Not to mention the fact that it can be difficult to get the items out or back into the packaging.

Saw the packaging myself today even though I didn't buy any of these figures, my first reaction was what a very bad idea, just a recipe for disaster! is there no quality control at TG? very poor.

This is certainly not the way to do it . This is asking for trouble. Would change it immediately !!!!!!
The old way is the best .
I received the Ber 003 packed the old way without any damage at all
guy:)

well, its certainly not the best idea and will I am sure be as short lived as when K&C tried it with a number of their sets. The AK Howitzer and crew were like this as were to my absolute anger and horror some LAH troops. This caused damage to them and was an unnecessary pain. Other manufacturers have tried this I recall Del Prado did this on all their figures I have bought

Aside from the cries of quality control etc!!! a simple way to solve any damage if you have to pack figures like this is to have some medium wrapped around the item then the tie it.

Would go with the calls for this to be removed from future sets

What is wrong with soft foam in boxes simple is often the best way to go?

I just got my first TGM Cavalry figure NAP026A today in the new packaging, and there was no damage at all, due to this extra tie wire and bracing used.

I am glad that I did use wire cutter to cut the wire and not unwind it, so do need to be careful but there was no rubbing which I have had with other makers, like Del Prado and Hachette who also use that method to secure the figure.

So thanks for the suggestion of wire cutters, it does work well.

AND the figure looks SO much better than what I saw on the website images, which was something that Wayne commented on yesterday, when he came over to share a beer after work, and show off his new TGM Germans :)

Unrelated to the wire issue, TG quality control is worrying. Also check carefully the new mounted SA for the Berlin 1938 series. Horse rein(s) might be broken.
