New product on Facebook (1 Viewer)

The lack of new releases has nothing, repeat nothing to do with finances, more to do with factory/production/supply chain/COVID issues.

There are loads of new releases in the pipeline, but again, due to factory/production/supply chain/COVID issues, they are delayed.

Their goods go by sea to the West Coast, then from there to their warehouse, there are supply chain issues now and they've been ongoing for some time.

Anyone who has questions about a particular manufacturer is best served consulting with their toy soldier dealer of choice as we actually speak to the manufacturers either via phone or email and they inform us of issues and what they are up against in today's climate.

George, do we know why First Legion stopped providing updates on the forum? The updates were very useful...

Thank you George for giving us some proper facts!
We should should not speculate too much about things we know too little about.

Yeah, I understand Alex. Andy (he even posted videos etc. explaining his situation) & John & Gunn are all more communicative these days. Let's hope we get some news!

Best Wishes to FL & All!

I really have no authority to comment on the reasons why First Legion no longer posts on the forum, that one is above my pay grade............;).

Must have been hard enough 3 years ago running a business that involves dealing with the Chinese and the Russians. Now it must be nigh impossible. Someone who owns a toy soldier company ( not first legion ) and who has spent a lot of time in Russia said to me ‘The Russians have two strong genes. Artistic and criminal.’ Interesting.

For various reasons, toy soldiers will never be the same again:redface2:

You've got King & Country, John Jenkins, TGM, First Legion, W. Britain War Park, Ready4Action, The Warrior Caste, Kronprinz and Team among others, all of whom survived COVID and are producing figures.

Not sure why toy soldiers will never be the same again in your eyes.

Sci Fi/Fantasy wargaming is hugely popular with kids/young adults.

There is convention in Indianapolis called Gen Con, geared to that crowd, it draws 10,000 attendees.

As kids/young adults age, some "graduate" to historical gaming, others stay with sci fi/fantasy.

As I told another member today, Gen Con draws more attendees than every toy soldier show around the world.

Combined.

Probably fivefold; wargaming is a huge hobby, big in the US, bigger in the UK and Europe.

The UK is the birthplace of the toy soldier hobby with W. Britain being the longest standing company in the world, it was also the king of plastics with Airfix, Britain and Timpo, the US had one of the premier companies as well, Marx Toys.

Henry Cavill is making it cool. KING OF THE NERDS!!!

I used to be friends with a wargamer who owned 1/4 of a hobby store around here.
12 years or so ago, he said Fantasy sells better than History (except for his almost full collection of Osprey Books, which sold as well as his Fantasy Gamer Books (D&D etc.).

Unpainted metal and plastics were almost all fantasy there. Even most of the board games were.

No kickstarters for us as we are Friends of Labor.

But, we might buy 60mm Elves, fully painted for under $200 US/foot figure, if they are released to the pubic as all releases should be.

Only K&C and JJD maintain an acceptable regularity in the number of monthly releases

What about Thomas Gunn, no figures in August [there was planes], we were made aware of that, but regular monthly releases of both Figures and Planes. No one else is releases planes on a monthly basis.

Warpark also have constant releases, not monthly, but they have never claimed to be monthly.

Recently I only see FL and TM having problems with releasing product at the rate they used to.
Let's hope they don't go the way of TCS & Conte.

Best WishesPaddy

Remember we still have a supply chain problem. Cities shut down in China.

Possibly, but the quaratined cities have been geographically spread over China, with no one city really being quaratined for that long a period, relative to the issues with FL. I do not think the issues are COVID related, possibly a little, but i think the issue is internal, driven by external competition. Basically i think the market/competitiors have overtook FL, once a premium brand with a price to match, but now the competitors have uped their game, quality has improved, as well as range offerings, which FL have failed to match [in offerings]. Which essentially means FL do not offer as much 'bang for your buck' as others. Leading to a cash shrinkage as sales have constricted, add to their is an awful lot of FL figures in dealers etc unsold, nowhere near K & C levels, but still a backlog for people to catch up on.

The company has extended it's sale AGAIN and there is a lot available still unsold. Plus there are 6 days to go on the crowdfunding and just under 72% of funds. Even if they do get the funds, it is for a range which has limited appeal to TS collectors and means we, as collectors, still have no sign of new items.

Was surprised FL has not gone down the limited release route, say of 100 figure releases, with same figure being prodiced in 2 or even 3 variant colours of armourment, for example you could do a Crusader figure, different livery [as K & C and JJD have done] of one with a sword, other with axe and another with a maze, etc. Thats 300 figures, offered out to the TS community, with an deposit deal of say 25% to guarentee you received one or more of the limited figures. Have used figures as examples, but thought that would be a better way to raise capital.

I collect only a single First Legion range - Crusaders, for me the best, by far, on the market, K & C are like cartoon figures, thou some of the newer ones are OK, whereas JJD are not in the Crusader era i am interested in, however, those Almoravid are really good and i have a few in the Tan and some in black, they need no other figures to oppose them. I do have 4 FL Winter Germans, will fit in my Warpark winter Kharkov collection, but have no more as price compared to what i can get for the same money from WP, TGM and JJD is a better deal for me.

Sadly i think FL are a busted flush, bit like Conte, they will bump along like a zombie company, we will get the odd posting from fans/cult members who cannot believe it, same as Conte. I sincerely hope i am wrong but the signs are there.

Someone put on the forum there is no problem and there are loads going to be release, they were on a boat/ship on the way, but shipping take from 14 to 30 days, unless they are rowing!

Well written. First Legion WW2 stuff rocked from 2009 to 2015, but it seemed to have gone downhill since then..

Sensitive to criticism?

I do very much much like their WW2 Stalingrad range, and have bought much of it.

However, if they are going down the bizarre direction of dwarves & elves, then they will no longer feature on my radar.

Their disengagement from any communication does not at all bode well.
