I'm curious to know - does JJD have a particular date they release details of forthcoming releases similar to the way K&C publish dispatches at the begining of each month?

Yours in eager anticipation......:)

Mike Hall from Sierra Toy posts John's upcoming releases each month here on the TF Jenkins thread with pictures and descriptions.

Thanks Randy, I look forward to reading Mike's next bulletin.

Evzone,

John's new releases are usually out by the 15th of month or so.

The last five have been:

15 May
10 April
5 March
18 Feb
15 Jan

Should be out some time this week. :)

Andrew

Thanks mate, that is something to look forward to! Any ideas (hopes) what might be in the bag this time round?

I am thinking we will see some sets for -

JACOBITE REBELLION 1745,

RAID ON ST FRANCIS 1759,

BATTLE OF CHIPPEWA 1814.

But these are guesses. :)

Andrew

Pretty sound guesses to me. Looking forward to see more releases for the Jacobites. Do you think is there much more to come in the Quebec range?

On the Quebec range, as John has just retired all the British 47th Regiment figures I assume that we will be getting a new British Regiment for this series or more of the 20th Regiments figures.

Hopefully we will see another French Infantry Regiment and another Highland Regiment also.

I live in hope. :)

This is an excerpt from an email from John on 6/2/09..........................

"Please remember that I do have about a dozen more French Marines in campaign dress in the works which would be suitable for your display. There should be one set released next month?
I will also get around to more French militia etc once I have got more of the Marines released, as there were many of these at Quebec, and skirmishing on the flanks, not in regular poses, so there will be plenty of French to add later..... I'm slowly getting there!"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

and on a personal note..............I would almost bet money that a new Jacobite will be released this month.

Thanks for the heads-up fellas....keep the info coming, brightens my day up!

Mike,

I would say you can put the house on that one. :D

Andrew

The only reason I say that,

is because in both the old photo and the new photo on his website of Culloden Moore,

John shows 2 finished, unreleased prototypes of Jacobites in the group of Highlanders.

I'm guessing we will see the guy in the red kilt, white shirt, blue cap, sword and dagger in hand,

or the guy reaching for the wound on his head.

Poor John, he has so much stuff going on.

Six different battles at once,:eek::eek:

maybe five if Monongahela really is finished,

but I remember him saying that while he thought he was finished with B of M,

his main request at the symposium was for more 44th firing,

so I would expect to see some of them too, 4-6 months down the line.

He's desperately needing BJ's, for the Culloden to compliment BJ01 and 02, while still needing celebrities on both sides.

The Highlanders themselves are too good to stop on.

On 1812, he needs BCH's to compliment BCH01, 02, 06, 10 and 11, plus celebrity figures on both sides.

Snow Shoes seems to be going strong with new releases the last 2 months.

Quebec, well, he has made promises there too.

I'm just saying, he has a lot on his plate to deal with.

I really can't see a new series for some time while he has so much to do on earlier series.

I remember a lot of people a couple of months ago clamoring for Ticonderoga,

but I just can't see any new series right now.

So much unfinished business to take up his time.

Last month 7 figures were released, 2 SS's, 3 R of St. F., 1 USCH and 1 Jacobite.

Is that a lot of releases in a month compared to other distributors?

I mean, isn't 7 new figures in a month a lot of releases?

Mike at Sierra posted the June releases o May 14th last month, so I guess we will see something in the next few days.

I'm sure they will all look good.

Mike-
I tend to agree with a lot that you said. JJ has about as much on his plate as most can handle. It's a tough choice to end a popular line like BM or BOS, but if anything new is going to be done something has to give. My perception is JJ has a relatively small, but loyal group of collectors who need releases to be kept manageable each month or they may give up. Three or four new sets is about right. When it goes above $300 per month in new releases that is pushing things.

Doug,

if that's a collector friendly dollar amount ($300) per month, then he seems to be staying around or under that guidline.

$300 a month is a lot of money, but affordable,

but you're right, if he opens a new series, something has to give.

He's not going to make everybody happy.

I'm not very diversified, knowledgeable or too savvy about other distributors.

Do the other guys (WMB, K&C, CS, FL, etc..) release around 7 figures a month or is that a lot?

It seems like a lot to me after collecting the Frontline Zulu that only puts out a couple of sets all year.

I also think John's fan base may be growing some,

even while I seem to see some stagnant sales on Ebay,

just my opinion,

I see new people on Treefrog commenting on his thread and his figures.

Concerning Ebay though,

it is kind of flooded with Jenkin's figure,

or more so than I have seen in the past,

just my opinion.

IMO the $300 a month figure is affordable only if one does not collect every series. The variety is key here, allowing the collector to pick and choose what to buy. I do not collect JJD exclusively but it is my priority. If JJD were to put out $300 worth of one series in a month, I might absorb the hit once, but I would lose a lot of ground if it continued. The multi-series release works well for me because I do not buy every series, and it allows some money for buying other manufacturers releases that I might like. That said, more Jacobites, please.:D -- lancer

The trouble with skipping a set upon new release,

is that on these 500 and 750 releases,

a lot of people will buy multiple sets, especially on firing lines.

It seems like enough at first thought (750),

but I believe the QB1-6 and maybe even 7 are retired already, even though Sagers says they are not, correct me or confirm if I'm wrong or right please.

You're almost obligated to purchase pretty quickly,

even if only one set,

cause in 6 months or a year,

you might find them retired and hard to find.

Can anybody tell me what is retired from the QB's?

I stopped buying them (POA),

they are the only series I chose not to collect,

not because I don't love them,

but because it is a large series (26 sets or so currently) and would cost a lot of money to follow.

I'm happy with B of M, SS's, R of St. F., Jacobites and 1812.

I did start on the QB's and have:

3 QB06's
3 QB07's
and
2 QB20's

I would definitely part with these if somebody has anything to swap I want.

I would trade for BM01, BM03, FM02

or almost any of the BM's excluding 11, 12 and 14

and

any of the VM's excluding 1, 4 and 5.

Mike-
The whole "retirement" issue is a bit confusing for sets that are limited to a specified production number. Ideally they would be "sold out" or "not sold out" but even that just tells you whether JJ has any left. Plenty could still be available from dealers even if they are considered sold out. Another complication is that John appears to be making fewer of certain sets than advertised before they are "retired." For example, they could be listed as limited to 750, but some unspecified lower number of sets are actually produced when they are retired. How often that happens is anyone's guess. Whew.

Regarding POA, I believe only QB-01 (Wolfe) has been officially "retired."

Mike,

QB-03 to 09 the 47th Regiment sets were retired by John last month. They are called up on Treefrog as retired and a number of other dealers have advised me of the same. They were to be 750 sets of each made but John has retired them early, no reason given. I assume it is problems with sales of them and restocking / manufacturing issues.

QB-01 which was to be unlimited was retired a while ago. The rest of the QB and QF ranges are available.

I spoke by email to John a couple of weeks ago and he has retired a number of sets early lately (VM's, CAN-02, RFB's and now QB's). He is going to update his web site with the correct manufacture numbers when he gets a chance.

But as you say he is a bit busy at the moment. :D

Thanks Andrew,

I thought those QB's were retired.

Are you sure he retired them early or just made the quoted lot of 750 and sold out?

The way I understood it was that they sold really good and the dealers were just caught short on the supply for the demand.

About his website, he has updated the photo of the Jacobites already.

He told me has was going to get it together (website) soon but had temporarily lost his "right hand man" for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the info on the QB's.

Mike,

Retired early was the word from John.

I would be suprise if they have not sold well in the last month, but before that with 750 sets to be manufactured collectors I am sure would be buy the 350 to 500 sets first and thinking they had time to get the 750 sets. I did anyway and missed out on some of the QB's I wanted.

You also said John had update his Jacobite photo's, can not see any new photo's. Web site still missing last couple of releases.

Andrew :)
