RETURN TO MONONGAHELA
THE BATTLE ON THE MONONGAHELA 1755

Finally after all the requests for new 44th Regiment British Line Infantry, I have decided to re-visit the Monongahela collection.
There will be 6 new sets of British Line Infantry, released over the next 6 months as general releases.
For those interested in a sneak preview, the prototypes of most of the figures will be on display at the London Show on Saturday March 27th.

THE JACOBITE REBELLION 1745

Grenadier, derived from the word Grenade, was originally a specialized soldier, first established in the mid to late 17th Century, for the throwing of grenades, and sometimes assault operations.
It was usual for the Grenadiers to be chosen from the strongest and tallest soldiers.
At this time the complicated movements necessary for the throwing of the grenade made the adoption of a special headdress a necessary measure. Before the grenade could be thrown, the musket had to be slung across the shoulder, which meant that the cumbersome three-cornered hat generally worn at the time would usually be knocked off. A tall mitre cap without any projecting brim was therefore chosen.

A Stand of Colours is used to describe the 2 regimental infantry flags in the British Army. In 1747 the new regulations standardized these colours
“The King’s or first colours, of every regiment to be the Great Union.
The second colours to be the colour of the facings of the Regiment with the Union in the upper canton”

When the first Europeans arrived in America they observed that many of the tribes they encountered practiced scalping enemy warriors.
An English captive, Thomas Gist, the son of the famous Christopher Gist, wrote in a journal on September 14th 1758, that his captors, “Scalped everyone who was dead, without exception. As they arrived to the village they cleaned and dried the scalps and then hung them on poles”.

Capt. John Jenkins of the Glengarry Light Infantry,
“The Hero Of Ogdensburg”
The War Of 1812
(1pc)
NOT LIMITED
us$30

John Jenkins joined the 104th Regiment on 9th September 1804 as an ensign. In 1812 he was offered a captaincy in the Glengarry Light Infantry.
It was recorded that he was a man of “striking appearance”, and a member of a New Brunswick Loyalist family.
He is remembered for his leadership at the right column in the capture of Ogdensburg.
General Orders on 25th February praised Captain Jenkins, as “the hero of Ogdensburg”.
During this engagement he was to suffer severe wounds to both arms, which saw his left arm later amputated at the shoulder.
After spending the summer in hospital, he was appointed town mayor of Fredericton, in New Brunswick.
He was to die in New Brunswick on 9th February 1819.

The Glengarry Light Infantry was formed in 1812, by order of Lieutenant General Sir George Prevost. They were recruited from settlements of discharged Scottish soldiers in the Glengarry district.
They were originally intended to wear highland uniforms, which would have included kilts, but instead they were issued with the dark green uniform with black facings of the Rifle Brigade. Although instead of rifles the Glengarry were only armed with muskets.
Companies and detachments fought in several actions in Upper Canada from 1813, and the whole unit fought at the Battle of Lundy’s Lane.
The unit specialized in British Light infantry tactics and was well trained in skirmishing duties.
The unit was disbanded in 1816

Eventually my aim is to release the Collectors Club Membership figure every January.
The 2010 figure was delayed due to the Annual.

There will be 2 more special Club sets available before August

There will be 1 more 19th Century Special Club set available in October/November.

JJCLUB2009 figure, will now be retired, there is a limited stock available,
Membership will still be valid until the end of August 2010

COLLECTORS’ CLUB ANNUAL 2009

Many collectors have asked for some kind of reference catalogue.
Included with the 2010 membership figure will be the first Collectors’ Club Annual.
This will be a simple record of all sets that were released in the previous year, Caption contest winners, and product list
I hope with future Membership figures to continue to offer an Annual every year.

If the format proves popular, I will bring out 2008, 2007 and 2006 editions at regular intervals.

JJ DESIGNS COLLECTORS’ CLUB SET#3
Probably the most requested figure by collectors of the Monongahela series is an officer to command the Grenadiers.
“William Dunbar was a Lieutenant in the 44th Regiment of foot in 1755. He was apparently serving with the grenadier company and fought in the advance party at the Battle on the Monongahela. He was later employed in delivering provisions to the garrison at Fort Oswego in March 1756”
Extract taken from “The Orderly Books Of Major General Edward Braddock”
The basic unit of organization in the British regiment was the company. The normal strength of this company would be 40-60 men plus the officers. Typical organization would be:
1 Captain, 1 Lieutenant, 1 Ensign, 2 Sergeants, 3 Corporals, 1-4 Musicians (drummers, fifers or pipers) and 30-60 privates.

I noticed BCH09 will be done with a metal flag...maybe the resin was just an experiment and John decided to go back to the metal full time...either worked for me...but I think I prefer the heavier figure...

the Annual pamphlet looks like a quality product...that's a nice bonus I welcome...

Don't these guys look the greatest ... now, when is John going to release the pair of "unhatted" standing firing & kneeling figures ..?

Wow! I like everything, but particularly those Grenadiers.

Happy!!! In my opinion, the 4th Regiment Foot from BoC are the "snazziest" 18th Century British Troops John has done.

The BM20's are going to go quick...I bet they get gobbled up in a couple of months...sounds like quite a few more sets will still be coming too...

I love the BJ05 Grenadiers for the Jacobite Rebellion...the British side is sorely needing figures...really glad to see this one...that's a multiple purchase...

BCH09...Regimental Colours is also badly needed...I'm personally glad he will have a metal flag...sounds like a job for a dab of "tacky glue" on the base...but anyway...I really prefer the heavier figure...

John had mentioned that the factory he deals with is treating the flag as an additional figure...he's getting killed on the production cost...they are very heavy though...an unusually heavy single figure...most of his flag bearers tip the scale at 7 ounces plus...

My favorite is probably the RSF05...the Indian walking...he would like nice in the Indian village...and can be used in a variety of series...

The scalping poles...LEX03...ooooooh yea...I want a set of those for sure...

I will definitely order the new CC members set...I want my membership renewed...he's quite dashing..."Capt. John Jenkins"...hehehehe...

Old Dragon...the unhatted Royal Scots in the photo will be welcome when released...that's a multiple purchase for me...

Wow,
Superb on the club sets, annual, etc. AND>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MONAGH IS BACK!

And Metal Flags! John does listen. Kind of like the old EF Hutton Commercial!!!

Kudos!
Tom

I apologize to everyone who won't be getting any BM-20's since I placed my pre-order. :D

I will get the new club figure even though I don't collect 1812 but I want to renew my membership.I'm sure somebody will want him.I like RSF-05 so I'll get him.I don't think I will get the BM.I want a couple of sets but I will see want the other 5 sets are and yes I know they won't last long but I'll check them out as they are released.

Capt. John Jenkins of the Glengarry Light Infantry,
“The Hero Of Ogdensburg”
The War Of 1812

I was curious if he would fit with Chippewa and asked about this guy...
was he fictitious or not...
John said...

Captain John Jenkins was indeed a real person, some information is on the new releases. There is a good book on the Glengarry Light Infantry...
“The Glengarry Light Infantry, 1812-1816, Who They Were and What They Did in The War?” by Winston Johnston. According to this book, there was at least one Glengarry light Infantry at Chippawa.

I was very fortunate before Xmas to be asked by John to paint one of his raw castings of LT John Jenkins. I have a photo below of the inprocess piece with the completed face. It is a very dramatic and detailed face and a joy to paint. I hope to have the rest of the figure completed for the MFCA show in May at Valley Forge. I have also included a few photos of the Glengarry Light Infantry uniform. The tan fur on the pelisse really jumps out in contrast to the dark uniform. I only hope I can duplicate the visual impact when I put my brush to it.

love the new april releases. RSF-05 and the scalping poles is a great added bonus to the RSF series. BCH-09 wounded regimental colours is just incredible. BCH-08 and 09 is by far john's best flag work. and what can i say for all of us "MONONGAHELA NUTS". never thought i would see the day i could purchase tri-corn hat 44th regiment of foot for under a hundred dollars.:D:D:D

I know John said he was shipping late this month (April 12th) due to the show, I'm hoping Mike from Sierra Toys will be posting the new releases for May tomorrow or so...the Gordons should be in Junes releases and ready for delivery in July...I'm not even going to bother guessing for May...even with all my dialog with John...I don't think I have ever guessed a release yet...he is so sneaky...
