Good Morning and welcome to the first of the 2014 Releases from John, written on a very chilly morning here in California. Once again it is sad to report that we have zero rain, and none expected in the future, we are in for a very dry 2014!

A great set of releases to kick off the year. For those of you waiting for the January releases, they should be arriving next week. We have some great WWI releases, plus an amazing POLIKARPOV (do not miss out as the first release sold out incredibly fast), 3 outstanding (amazing) releases for Raid on St Francis and a very serious visit to the PLAINS OF ABRAHAM and the PENINSULAR War . A great set of releases.

As always I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918

It was the admiralty who were to pioneer the use of the armoured car. The officers enjoyed driving fast cars so they took their cars with them when they became stationed at Dunkirk at the start of the war.
Having also mounted some weapons in their cars, the naval officers would drive around northern France and Belgium looking to find sites for airfields, and to recover pilots, even those that had crashed behind enemy lines.

In 1917 an order of Austin Armoured cars originally destined for the Russian army, became the 17th (Armoured car) Battalion.
Recognising after the battle of Cambrai that the slow MARK V tanks could break through the fortified German lines, but could not exploit the break-out, the new Whippet Tanks, and the 17th (armoured car) Battalion underwent training to establish how to take advantage of this situation.

During the fighting at Amiens as part of the 5th Australian Division,16 cars were towed in pairs across the trenches and battlefield by tanks, and were then let loose behind the german lines creating havoc around Proyart and Framerville.
A German Corps Headquarters which was located 10 miles behind the front lines was captured, and in honour of the Australian Division an Australian flag was nailed to the German generals’ front door. Detailed plans of the Hindenburg line were captured and german reserves, artillery and supply lines were shot up, including a train.
The greatest value of these cars was in the spreading of fear and rumour. German troops were reporting a new British tank which could travel 30mph and spout fire in all directions.
It was said that the 16 cars were “worth more than a whole cavalry division.”

At the time of the Battle of Amiens the armoured cars were painted sky blue and khaki, in the hope that they would not show up against the horizon.

The 17th Battalion were to be the first British unit to cross the Rhine in 1918.

The armored car and Indians are really fine looking, but my favorite is the Polikarpov. It is a great little fighter plane with a very interesting color scheme. Now, if only I could read Russian.:wink2: -- Al

Looks like some outstanding releases for collectors of all ranges.

One side says "Buy me Al" and the other side says "You know you want to" :wink2: Seems like JJ made this one just for you and it is a really nice one.

or it could mean "For the USSR" (Union of Soviet Socialist Republiks) and the other side looks like "For the Communist Party of the Soviet Union" but in the old name from before WWII to the 1950's which would be "For the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). Looks like someone did some research. What you have is a politically correct airplane ^&grin

LOL. Terry, that's exactly what I was afraid it said. Subliminal advertising has gotten me again.{eek3} I've always liked those early war Russian fighters. Besides, it will look good next to my other JJD Polikarpov.^&grin -- Al

I had thought that JJ had released the Polikarpov for SCW but maybe they had just shown it at one of the London shows in 2013. Nice looking plane. Something different.

The plane is listed as SOV-05. I see a SOV-01 in the catalogue. Is there a SOV-02 through SOV-04, or is that to come?

Brad, the SCW Polikarpov was definitely released. It was REP05, in an edition of 100. It was Tinker's aircraft. I have #99 of the edition. -- Al

Thanks Al. I guess old age must have settled in! I missed the SCW one. Oh, well. Guess old age settled in for that one too ^&grin

Just saw there's one on eBay, but a tad expensive. Will get the WW II; I like the color scheme better, plus the stand is a definite plus.

I may be color blind but can someone tell me what the difference is on the mounted indian.I really can't tell the difference. Some great looking indians either way.
Mark

Macro,

Bunch of differences --- horse color (Dark Brown vs Buckskin)
Forward and Rear Pack Rolls (4 different colors total)
Leggings Patterns on the Indians are Different
Face and Shoulder Paint (Red vs Natural)
Saddle Blanket Color
Horse Socks are in Different Patterns.
Grass Pattern is Different
Tattoo Patterns on the Indians are Different.

Easiest is the Buckskin vs Dark Brown Horse. There are 2 photos of each, so you might have been looking at the same figure.
