THE QUEBEC LANDING BARGE
THE BATTLE OF THE PLAINS OF ABRAHAM 1759

The Quebec landing Barge, 1758 (c). This type of barge was used during General Wolfe's landing at Quebec in 1759. It was developed around 1758 for use in seaborne attacks on French ports. Assault landing techniques were devised with the aid of Royal Navy officers, and as well as at Quebec, spectacularly successful results were achieved during the Seven Years War (1756-1763) at Louisbourg (Cape Breton, Canada) in 1758 and at the Spanish fortress of Havana (Cuba) in 1762.
The boat has 13 crew and 24 Grenadiers.

The boat is produced in 3 main pieces, so that the set can be displayed on its own stand, or as a waterline model.
Captain James Cook the famous British Explorer was a young MASTER on HMS Pembroke during the Quebec Siege, and was placed in charge of organizing the Landing barges.

The 15th Regiment of Foot was raised in 1685 under Sir William Clifton, and was known as
Clifton's Regiment of Foot. In 1702, the regiment formed part of Marlborough's Army, distinguishing itself at the battles of Blenheim, Ramilles, Malplaquet and Oudenarde.

The regiment was numbered the 15th Regiment of Foot in 1751 and was heavily engaged during the French and Indian War. The 15th Foot "took the fort" at Louisburg in 1758 and was part of General Wolfe's Army fighting on the Plains of Abraham, above the city of Quebec, on September 13, 1759.
The 15th Regiment of Foot saw action during the defense of Quebec and took part in the expedition against Montreal in 1760.

Mike,
Your total is correct. Breakdown is :
Boat U$178
13 sailors US$330
12 Grenadiers US$380 and need two sets of these.

The cost per figure is actually pretty good.

Yeah the prices are good. About $25 per sailor and a little over $31 per grenadier. Boat price is pretty good too..

I'm glad he is releasing everything for this boat. I also like the waterline option of the boat.

Now John just needs the naval museum in London to have them switch out the model they have on display, that I took pictures for John for his research, with his work of art. I'm not saying that the model on display was bad, it's just not a jjdesigns quality one. My wife and I were talking about that trip and it is hard to believe that was almost 4 years ago.

Nice to see the boat finished and in release.

Matthew

I like the audacity of something like this, but I wonder if the repetitive figure poses will look natural on a boat this size? Would have preferred to see more variation instead of using multiples of the same figures to fill the boat. It's still a beauty though. John's work is unsurpassed right now.

Thanks! I'm torn between this set and the Royal Garrison Artillery guns. Hard decisions ahead... {sm2}

I know exactly what you mean Brendan. Just when you think that it couldn't get any better, JJD comes out with more sets that certainly delivery "shock and awe" eye/collectible appeal. This landing barge is the latest example and, like you, I am torn about collecting this set. I also have been collecting the Royal Garrison guns and crew sets. I have both the 6-inch howitzer and the 60 pounder heavy field gun along with the truck mounted anti-aircraft gun. What's unique about these guns is that JJD is supplying each of them with their own full 10-man crew. No other manufacturer that I know of offers full gun crews. The past norm has been to offer perhaps 4 figures per gun. I now have the 6-inch gun fully crewed, half of the heavy field gun is crewed, and I still have yet to crew the AA-gun. Three guns with 30 Royal Garrison Artillery figures is no small investment either. And like this incredibly beautiful landing barge set, when these guns and crews are retired, sold out, and otherwise very hard to find, many collectors will wish they had collected them as well. Decisions, decisions . . . . . .
