NEW RELEASES FOR JUNE 2020
THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY COLLECTION
DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK
THE BATTLE OF SARATOGA 1777,

THE 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] NEW HAMPSHIRE REGIMENT

The 2nd New Hampshire Regiment was formed in early May 1775, as the second of three Continental Army regiments raised by the state of New Hampshire during the American Revolutionary War. Its first commander was Colonel Enoch Poor, with Joseph Cilley as major. Many of the men who served in the unit hailed from southeastern New Hampshire and western Maine (then part of Massachusetts).
After Enoch Poor was promoted to Brigadier, Nathan Hale was commissioned colonel of the 2nd New Hampshire Regiment in April 1777.

Flags or colors which belonged to the 2nd NH were captured at Fort Anne in July 1777 during the retreat from Fort Ticonderoga. After more than a century, they were returned from Britain, and are on display today at the Tuck Library of the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord. They are among the only American battle flags from the Revolutionary War known to exist. The colors containing the motto "The Glory Not the Prey" are marked "2nd NH Regt", while the other colors captured at the time, the linked 13 rings, were likely a type of national color. Two other flags captured by the British at Skenesboro were also noted and they had similar designs, especially another with the 13 linked rings. While their colors were lost, the 2nd New Hampshire fought bravely in the autumn of 1777, where they were heavily engaged with British forces at Saratoga, leading to the surrender of General John Burgoyne's army.

Are the Second MA officers labelled correctly. The color combination is different from the previous releases. That dark brown coat with red facings seems like a new combination to me. Second Maryland maybe?

jjDESIGNS DEALER NEWS UPDATE 19[SUP]th[/SUP] MAY 2020

Many thanks to several collectors who have pointed out my latest mistake.
I apologize once again that I’ve made a mistake regarding some of the new releases.
The SMASS-02A and SMASS-02B pictures were not correct.
The correct pictures are now attached.

Over a year ago I asked collectors which new regiments they would like to see as re-paints for the Saratoga series.
The most popular choice was the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] New Hampshire Regiment.
But I also agreed to produce a couple of other regiments.
One of which was The 9[SUP]th[/SUP] Massachusetts Regiment.
It was pictures of figures from this regiment which were sent mistakenly sent out as the SMASS-02.
To avoid further confusion the next new repaint of the American Revolution continental regiment will be a limited run of the 9[SUP]th[/SUP] Massachusetts, with their brown coats and red facings.

THE 9th MASSACHUSETTS REGIMENT
The 9th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Line was created on November 1, 1776. The unit served until January 1, 1783 when, in compliance with the general order of December 24, 1782, the unit was disbanded.
The regiment had two, successive commanders: Colonel James Wesson, from November 1, 1776 to January 1, 1781; and Colonel Henry Jackson, from the latter date to January 1, 1783. The regiment was a part of Learned's Brigade, which consisted of the 2nd Mass, 8th Mass, the 9th and, some say, the 1st Canadian Regiment. When in battle formation, the regiment was always positioned in the second line of the left wing, between the 3rd Mass and the 6th Mass. Overall command was by Major General Stirling.
The regiment served, as did all Massachusetts units, in what was known as the Northern Department during the war. It participated at Fort Stanwix, Saratoga and Valley Forge. At Valley Forge (1777–1778), under the command of Col. Wesson and assisted by Lt. Col. James Mellen, it was incorporated by Lt. Col. James Mellen into Major General DeKalb's division

The 9[SUP]th[/SUP] Massachusetts Regiment will be available later this year, and the figures will be suitable for the Battle of Saratoga Campaign.

Many thanks and I apologize once again for any confusion and inconvenience.

Best wishes
