Good morning and welcome to the latest announcements from John Jenkins, written on a very nice warm summer day here in the Bay Area.

If you are visiting the Texas Toy Soldier Show, please stop by and say hi. If you would like to see any of the available John Jenkins items, please let us know and we will try to bring it along.

Some terrific new releases this month, including the First American Aircraft from WW1, French & Indian Wars, French Napoleonic Ambulance, Display bases and yes a windmill! Terrific!

As always we hope you enjoy the new releases as much as we do.

Best regards

Mike

KNIGHTS OF THE SKIES

The SPAD S.XIII was a French biplane fighter aircraft of World War I, developed by Société Pour L'Aviation et ses Dérivés (SPAD) from the earlier highly successful SPAD S.VII. It was one of the most capable fighters of the war, and one of the most-produced, with 8,472 built.

The 94th Aero Squadron was first organized on 20th August 1917, at Kelly Field Texas. The squadron was deployed to France soon afterwards.

As the first American Squadron in operation, its aviators were allowed to create their own squadron insignia.

They used the opportunity to commemorate the United States entry into WW1 by taking the phrase of tossing one’s “hat in the ring” (a boxing phrase to signify ones willingness to become a challenger), and symbolizing it with the literal image of Uncle Sam’s red, white and blue top hat going through a ring.

THE BATTLE OF THE PLAINS OF ABRAHAM 1759
The 35th Regiment of Foot was active in North America during the French and Indian Wars, from 1756 until 1763.

The unit was probably best known for having served at Fort William Henry, during the siege, when the fort was overwhelmed by French forces commanded by General Montcalm.

They were also to see action at the Battles of Louisbourg and Quebec at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.

This will be the first of 14 figures for the 35th Regiment of Foot.

THE PENINSULAR WAR 1807-1814
Baron Dominique Jean Larrey served as Surgeon-in-chief of the French Napoleonic armies from Italy in 1797 to Waterloo in 1815. During this time, he implemented the modern method of having an Army Surgery, field hospitals and a system of ambulances.

After he had seen the speed with which the carriages of the French artillery managed to maneuver around the battlefields, Larrey adapted a similar system of Ambulances for rapid transportation of the wounded, and also manned them with trained crews of drivers, and litter bearers.

Windmills were to be found throughout Portugal and Spain, and due to their locations, on top of hills or along ridges, played key parts as command posts during many of the major battles of the Peninsular War.

At Busacco, Massena the French commander was positioned at the windmill at Moura, whilst on the opposing ridge, Crauford used the windmill at Sula for his command post.

Wow ... The ambulance looks great, put in my pre-order. :salute::

Brilliant releases! Neat stuff everywhere you turn. The Spad is, obviously, the highlight for me and what is even more impressive than the model itself is the price point. I greatly feared that the Spad would be more expensive than the previous models, like the Albatros, because of the complicated paint job and much more complicated rigging. I am pleased beyond expression to see the price where it is. Fantastic job, JJD! -- Al

Very nice releases!! The 35th four marching figures set is for me, thank you John. As it is the #1 hoping for a second (and third) set with different poses and faces to mix.

why not show the sizes in centimeters in brackets!?!?...I have a 'cappuccino' table!

With regards to this release being the 1st of 14 figures, does this mean that there will be literally 14 more different figures coming our way? Will they be released as sets? Does anyone know?

My guess would be:
2 Marching line figures (set of 4 option)
2 marching Grenadier figures (set of 4 option)
1 Officer
1 Drummer
2 Flag bearers (National and Regimental)
2 NCOs
2 Casualties
1 mounted officer?
Maybe another marching pose for the line or another casualty?
= 14

What a cracking bunch of releases! I'm in for the SPAD, British Pilots, Prussian Grenadiers Attacking the Gateway and Lt. C.B. Arnold.
Think the scenic baseboards a terrific development. ( I'm thinking - maybe some WW1 terrain to come........? )

This sounds good to me!! I'll take this arrangement or something similar. Good guesses.

I pre ordered the windmill for my FIW shelf and the desert base for my Napoleon in Egypt shelf. Both look great! Great releases across the board!

Looks like this will go fine with me too because I have 4 x BILLY Bookcases for my collection, so it will fit in :):)

I think that the suggestion for Napoleon in Egypt will suit me too :)

The LARREY Ambulance looks so great, now we see it painted.

I wonder now what figures will be coming to support this vehicle?

Pictures I have seen show a mounted driver, but I don't see a saddle on the horse, nor a seat for the driver on the wagon, so I suppose it will led by a soldier?

We have the marching Fusiliers released over the passed couple of months, so maybe a future release could me marching medics in a wagon train?

Or... (which would be even better), a medical scene with wounded soldiers, Baron Larrey in attendance together with medics??

Hope so :confused::confused:

FIW Marching!!! :):):), but think the minimum number of rank/file would be 3 different poses for either the grenadier or the regulars. If both grenadiers and regulars are released, that is a minimum of 6 figures. My preference would be for four different poses for each, but think I can live with only three.

6 rank file marching
1 drummer
2 flags bearers
2 Sergeants (grenadier/regular)
2 Corporals (grenadier/regular)
1 Mounted Officer
2 Dismounted Officers (grenadier/regular)

Already at 16 figures !!!! :confused::confused::confused:

I believe we have seen grenadier poses pre-production, so I am assuming we will have grenadiers. But if all regulars, 14 different figures would really make a nice column.

Now just need bases for the FIW!!!!

A great set of releases, good variety and some unique pieces. Hard to pick a favourite.

I am looking forward to receiving the Sudan bases and trying them with a few different series.

As excited as I am about the new F&IW releases, I am really not a fan of the static grass on the bases. Besides not being elegant in application or color (imho), this basing now looks different than the rest of the collection. Anyone else feel the same way, or am I alone in this and will just have to figure out a way to "safely" remove the grass, if possible. Thanks for listening : )

Bests,
Chris
