Good morning everyone and welcome to the very latest releases from John Jenkins.

Unfortunately he will not be in Chicago this year, but with a little bit of luck we hope to have most of the new releases there for you to see and maybe even buy.

We are introducing the first of the special club sets, they are on preview now, and available to order from us or your usually friendly JJ dealer. To obtain these you must be a member of JJ collectors club.

This set will only be available for members to pre-order, and the window closes on October 31st, 2009. This set will not be stocked by any dealer including us, so please do not miss out. Contact your dealer for more information

The new releases this month are terrific as usual, my favorite so far is this years Christmas set which is a must, the new Longhouse should also be part of any F& I Diorama.

Hope as always you like them, and we will have on the web site later today.

THE BATTLE ON SNOWSHOES
The casualty numbers for the French and Indian losses during the battle on Snowshoes have been somewhat elusive.
The numbers entered by Captain D’Hebecourt in his post battle report state that there were 8 indians killed, 17 wounded, and only 3 Canadians wounded.
(Information gathered a few months later from French prisoners revealed that the Indians alone had lost 27 killed and wounded)

THE RAID ON ST. FRANCIS

The first and largest of two Longhouses for the Woodland Indian Village
Longhouses were homes used by the Iroquois tribes. The Iroquois were farming people who lived in permanent villages
They were built in a similar way to wigwams, with pole frames and elm bark covering.
The main difference is that the longhouses were much larger, but the size did vary, and could be good homes for as many as twenty families.

CHRISTMAS
Meanwhile back at the British Camp, celebrations have started early for Christmas!
For soldiers cooped up in the isolated garrison forts in the wilderness there was little to do in the off-duty hours but eat, sleep, gamble and drink!
New England Rum, popularly known as “Killdevil”, was issued daily to the men.
A gill or quarter pint was the authorized ration, but men could earn an extra gill in lieu of money for extra duties such as road building or fort construction. Also in some cases after returning from strenuous patrols or successful expeditions
Enterprising soldiers could always find extra drink somewhere.
At Quebec in the winter months it was a serious problem
“Liquors were extremely scarce, and when men could procure them, they generally drank to excess, it was no uncommon thing in the morning, to find several men frozen to death, from the above cause.”

Here is another Fun F+I War set for the holidays!
And Cheers to Benjamin for the suggestion!

JJ DESIGNS COLLECTORS’ CLUB SET#1
This is one of the many requests that I have received for extra sets for now retired Monongahela series, and should be an excellent example of what I hope to offer collectors through the jj Designs Collector Club.

STATUS- 30 DAY PREVIEW September 1st- 30th 2009
Colonel Sir Peter Halkett, and Lieutenant James Halkett
Three members of the Halkett family fought with Braddock at the Battle on the Monongahela.
Two were never to return.
Colonel Sir Peter Halkett was attempting to rally his men when he was struck down. As Sir Peter fell to the ground his son Lieutenant James Halkett, also of the 44th Regiment of Foot, rushed to his fathers side.
He too was shot, and just as they had fought together, father and son died together.

Some great looking sets. Mike, I am sure your post will be the tender for many excited replies.

Great releases as always.
Are there any pictures of JR03?

Thanks

Pete

Nice releases,
looking forward to the Longhouse for my Woodland Indian Village.

Many thanks for posting, yet again more excellent sets to add to the collection. The druken Grenadiers look great fun! Looking forward to seeing images of JR03. I love John's work.

Does any one think we'll ever see some FIW Black Watch ?

I don't collect the 1812 series, but that new flag bearer and flag are very colorful. Love that flag. I also like the drinking buddies. Now where is the disapproving NCO?:D -- lancer

Nice releases this month.......John must spend a lot of hours at the sculpting table.

For a "one man" operation on sculpting.....he sure turns out a lot of work........and regularly too.

The British officer with the King's Colours is an extremely good looking figure.

I especially like the Highlanders too....very colorful and great poses.....both with sword and daggers drawn.

On a side note:

The Jacobites started the campaign poorly armed.

At the Battle of Prestonpans, some only had swords, Lochaber axes, pitchforks and scythes.

Even though popular lore attributes a common highlander equipped with a broadsword, targe and pistol - it was only an officer or gentleman who was equipped this way.

Further illustrating this point, following the conclusion of the battle, Cumberland reported that there were 2,320 firelocks recovered from the battlefield, but only 190 broadswords.

From this, it can be determined that of the roughly 1,000 Jacobites killed at Culloden, only one in five carried a sword.

A little bigger picture of JR01 to show some detail.

I don't collect Jenkins but some of these are neat. Always love flag bearers.

Here is a picture of JR-03.

Thanks for the picture mate. A great addition to the Jacobite charging line. I've been fortunate to collect all the range to date through the dood guys at TMT. En-masse the effect of all those charhing Highlanders is pretty dramatic as do Barrells sranding in line awaiting the onslaught. Fantastic stuff, vivid and colourful!

Jenkin's figures have really beautiful painting on them.

Looking back into the forum archives, the first reports indicated there would be around 34 figures for the entire Battle on Snowshoes line. I think we have exceeded that number. Anyone have an update from John on how much longer this one will continue? It's a great line of figures and I hope he keeps it going - just curious how far he plans to go with it. Rogers and Langy are also coming.

The total number of BOS will be 50 figures by the end of 2009. There will be more in 2010--likely via the JJ Club. I would expect some officers from both sides of the battle to come then.
