New releases for September 2010 (1 Viewer)

I'm not sure how much appeal it will have either but it did have the Germans, Italians, Russians and International Brigades (made up of many nationalities). You could have a lot of personality figures as well: anyone up for Hemingway or Tito? You could have Robert Capa's famous photo (although some claim it is faked of a legionnaire dying in action) as a mini dio.

Would Spanish people buy this? I think so but there is massive unemployment over in Spain right now so it's very difficult to say.

I'm in all the way. I will collect this series, because it is such an important historical event (basically the Spanish Civil War was to WWII what the Mexican-American War was to the Civil War: a training ground) which none of the manufacturers has addressed except for a couple of K&C/Del Prado figures.

I would buy Hemmingway and his ambulance in a heartbeat.

It's only a flesh wound . . . come back here and I'll bite your knee caps!:p:D

A TANK!! Goord Grief has the world gone mad...John Jemkins making tanks.
I will pass and hope the next full moon brings us lots of 18th & 19th century treasures with the JJ touch

Walt Damon

But I must admit, John certainly isn't afraid to blaze new trails...even if I need another heart pill to calm down from this surprize

Referencing my earlier post, here is Capa's famous photo of a loyalist miliciano (miltiaman) being killed. This is one of the most famous war photographs ever. However, it appears to have been staged although the evidence isn't completely conclusive.

Wow, big release for September, hope there is something in the bag for October. Great Sudan figures will need them all plus that gatling gun. Blast I have just cleared my credit card too, but to bad these are must have's. Well done John, the excitement carries on.

The new sets and figures are all up and available for pre-order on the Frog.
Very interesting twist to have a random 15% of the tanks numbered '423' with no indication of what you're going to find inside the box. Kind of like looking for the Golden Ticket in the Willy Wonka chocolate bars :)

:eek::eek:

Wow,what a great looking AFV, oh dear I feel the cc melting.

Yikes a tank!
SCW fills a nice little gap in the history of combat.
I think I’ll wait until September to see how the series flushes out.
The word “mini” I don’t like much, not in this context.

Donnie

The mini is a little cause for concern.

I'm interested in a range about the SCW (which not was just a run up to WW II because of the nature of the conflict: long seeded antagonisms between rich and poor) and not necessarilty the Condor Legion. However, I'll probably break down and get one of these regardless;)

Brad-
You seem to distinguish between the SCW and the Condor Legion. The CL was part of the SCW so I don't really see it as much of a separate thing. My guess is John will supplement the CL with various figures from that war.

There was a lot more to the Spanish Civil War than that; the Condor Legion was only a part of it. The Italians also had a significant presence. I would hope that we see Loyalist and Nationalist soldiers, including the Morrocan Foreign Legion of the Army of Africa who were encouraged to loot and rape. You can't make the Spanish Civil War without the International Brigades.

Well, what else can I say ... the SCW is certainly a BIG surprise from John.

I do not agree with the random packing of the #423 tank... seems to introduce an element of chance in a hobby, where most collectors are carefully planning purchases. If the limited production 423 is intended to "reward" dedicated fans of the series or of AFVs, then these should be bundled as a pair of 423 & 424 together. That way, buyers of single vehivcles will get the more widely available # 424. Not sure if this agrument makes sense to other collectors.

I sticking with JJD's pre-20th century. ... so I hope JJD does not introduce random packing in the other ranges. I like to mass my troops in lines & columns :D

The very first toy soldiers that I bought were in Madrid. They had a ton of military antique/toy soldier stores about a decade ago. And they weren't shy about the pro-Franco/axis connection which was a bit strange.

Really impressed with the PzKpfw 1A from the Condor Legion. The hull surface detailing and the track detailing is superb. I look forward to seeing further JJ Desgns armour and softskins trucks. I would love a DAK version if JJ would consider doing something slightly more modern.

Today................

I have received more than a few confused and surprised comments via personal messages on here...and have seen a few surprised replies on this thread...mostly from the "regular and usual" longtime Jenkin's collectors...these are from the same guys that I have conversed with on here for some time now about the FIW and 7 Year War series...but also from some that I believe are not current collectors but maybe future JJD collectors...

to step from FIW to Sudan and now to mechanized WWII era vehicles in such a short time...well...a lot of people are surprised at this new direction...I really can't blame John for doing this...he really does nice buildings and structures...stockades, blockhouses, cabins, whaleboats, wagons...etc...so........I guess this was a market he felt he should explore...

I would guess that roughly 60% to 70% of the people on this forum collect WWII in one form or another...if that's any indication of what the world wide market is buying...as a manufacturer...it would be hard to ignore it...

two eras I would never venture into are the WWII theater and the Napoleonics...being a compulsive buyer and with so much of these that manufacturers have to offer...I would be financial chaos for me...but I can certainly understand why he would gravitate to the WWII theater...

I'm sure he will still continue to produce figures for the 7 Years War, FIW, Sudan and 1812 series...I think he just wanted to utilize the facilities available to him and to try something new...as a FIW collector...this is probably not a series I would go for...but I hope he has great success with it...
