Good morning.

Here are the latest releases from John that are expected to arrive in late June / Early July. As usual he does not fail to surprise. This time we have a special piece to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, magnificent set for the Snowshoes series and welcome additions to the Battle of Chippewa.

SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN (1567-1635)
“The father of New France”, Samuel De Champlain was a respected and talented navigator and cartographer. His mapping of the St. Lawrence River and exploration of the Atlantic coast was integral in opening North America to French trade, especially the fur trade.
In the summer of 1608 Champlain landed at the “Point of Quebec” and set about fortifying the area. This was to become the city of Quebec. He became the founder of the city that would become the cradle of French America.
To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, this month sees the release of a special figure to celebrate the anniversary.
Of course it is a Limited Edition of 400.

BATTLE ON SNOWSHOES
The enemy party that Roger’s Rangers had initially fired upon, turned out to be just the advance guard of over 200 additional French and Indians. The Battle on Snowshoes had only just begun.

The Rangers, in turn were surprised, and had to retreat and reform. They succeeded in twice driving back the reinforced enemy party, but had lost both the initiative and their superiority of numbers.

After losing many men, over an hour and a half of combat, Rogers saw that further resistance was useless, and ordered a general retreat. However Rogers’ right flank under the command of Lieutenant William Phillips, had become completely surrounded by a large party of Indians. Phillips had decided to surrender after the enemy had assured him and his men that they would be given “good quarters”.

Shortly afterwards, in Rogers’ own words, Phillips’ and his men were “ inhumanly tied up to trees, and hewn to pieces, in a most barbarous and shocking manner.”

A French prisoner was to publish in “The Boston News-Letter” in 1758,

“above 30 of the English….. were killed and cut to pieces after they had capitulated, the Indians being enraged at finding a number of scalps in an officer’s pocket “

THE BATTLE OF CHIPPEWA July 5th 1814
Each Regiment in the US army was furnished with a “stand” of colours, consisting of a National Standard and a Regimental colour.
The first command sets for The Battle of Chippawa series will have the National and Regimental Standards of the Eleventh Regiment of U.S. Infantry.
The National Colours were a blue silk background with the national emblem of a bald eagle device .
The Infantry and artillery Regimental colours, which were also called “battalion colours” were made of yellow silk, (whilst those of the rifle regiments had a green silk background.)
They were slightly smaller than the National colours, and bore the Regimental designation in a blue gilt-edged scroll in the centre.

Ooooooooh, cool surprise!

Will have to get the Champlain figure and of course happy to see the next 2 Chippewa sets on schedule. Thanks for the update, Mike.

It looks like a light month for me as I don't collect the 1812 range. That's good, it will give me time to regroup for the next major onslaught.

I always like the personality figures. Champlain is a nice surprise. A great book to read in conjunction with the JJ line is "The Battle for North America" by Francis Parkman.

Well I already preordered Champlain and SRR-04.I hope this is the start of something new with Champlain.Selective 17th-18th cen.Explorer and frontiersmen figures would be nice.

I agree Mark. I think an explorers line would be really nice. Perhaps Marquette with a canoe or something like that next.

Very nice figures once again.

I am a bit disappointed in the number of figures, series and type this month (only 5 figures, only BOC and BOS series and all infantry again). :(

Last 8 months we have been averaging better than 8 figures per month (excluding stockade & blockhouse).

We still have no additions to SOQ series and it has been 5 months now. :(

Do not get me wrong the Samuel de Champlain figure is nice and different but

Were is the Cavalry, Limber, Wagon, French Artillery, Militia, so on.

What we need is one of the above per month at least and we desperately need more French troops.
SOQ 25 British figures v 13 French figures.
BOS 15 British figures v 5 French figures.
BOM 40 British figures v 17 French figures.

The French are very lite on the ground.

What we do not need is more British Grenadiers.

We now have 5 series on the go, we need a few more figures than 5 when 1 is a special release.

I have no problem collecting a series over 18 month to 2 years, but at this rate we will be here for 5 years.

Mark,

Bring them on, I will load with grape and see them all off. :D

Someone has to stir the pot. ;)

Andrew, I don't think you'll need grapeshot for me, but I suspect there may be some production related issues in China affecting releases at this point for starters. The late June to early July time frame is possibly more evidence of this being the case.

It does seem a light month, but good stuff nonetheless.

Not sure how many more releases to expect in the Monogahela series, but I personally would Loooooove to see more Grenadiers.

POA has been quiet for a while, and I have not gotten into that series, but might if new releases appear down the road.

I too would love to eventually see more mounted figures and artillery, but feel confident they will come in time, and sort of appreciate the gradual wallet friendly pace of, as you say, "We'll be here for 5 years at this rate".

Just some thoughts.

I really wouldn't want to see more grenadiers either. They were what 1-2 companies per regiment but if you count them up there are more of them then troops with bicornes in the JJ collection.Would like to see more French and American colonial militia and frontiersman and would like more vignette sets. Also some more French explorers of the 17th cen.,plus BRADDOCK,Rogers and Langy.
Mark :D:D:D

MD,

I will hold fire. :D

Earthquake in China a very sad thing, :( great to hear John and his people OK. :)

Yes the figures as usually are excellent.

More Grenadiers are fine with me too but some other different figures first.

I too will be here in 5 years time, but I would like to get my POA diorama looking a bit better.

Need more French Regiments, French Artillery & French Cavalry that were at the battle.

Thanks for your thoughts. ;)

Even despite the tragic earthquake, I believe some changes are currently taking place these days in some of the factories producing our favorite goodies. I've heard a bit about shorter working days, higher wages for workers and a recent shortage of skilled painters all impacting production recently. I know Richard Walker at Britains has alluded to these factors and would suspect other producers, including JJD, EoI, and K&C might be similarly affected if this is truly the case.

A lot of the enjoyment with collecting KC was lost for me with all the requests and complaints each month - mine own included. So with JJ I'm willing to enjoy whatever we get from month to month and not worry about it. More French, Braddock etc they will get here sooner or later. The waiting is just part of the fun.

You are right Combat but it's still fun trying to figure out what's coming next.

It is the same the world over, higher wages, shortage of skilled workers and you know what that means, higher cost of goodies.

I work in an industrial town called Gladstone in Queensland as a Design Manager for a mid size engineering firm. Graduate Engineers to 2 to 3 year Engineers are going for $90,000 to $120,000 AUD per year ($85,000 to $115,000 USD), if you can find one.

I can see Johns figures heading to $30 USD each by the end of the year (if not sooner) due to the above and the old supply & demand thing. :(
