New romans (1 Viewer)

@Sahara - this diorama is first class! You're very talented.

Would you mind to tell us a little of the "how to" of your diorama, please?
I would love to know how you have made the grass!?

Thanks

Oliver

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I'm really enjoying putting this together. In the end I hope I have a nice display to show off. Oliver the majority of the grass is from JG miniatures with the exception of a few places where I did not have enough grass matt and had to utilize a couple fake fur pelts that I had to trim and dye.

Please, those Contes Romans look like a plastic $5, 00 Wal-Mart toys

Hahaha...........please........I can't believe you're saying that...

I respectfully and totally disagree...the new Winter Game's Romans by Conte are quite spectacular...

I own the Flying Barbarian set and it is a showpiece...the sculpting is extremely nice and the painting is superb......a $5.00 Walmart toy...lol...you gotta be kidding...you might take another look...also these figures will be coming in at under $30 per figure...really...you should take another look...the older Conte Romans are nice...but these new ones are exceptional and a steal at the price...

Joe...fantastic job on your Roman fort...your river turned out very nice...I really like the murky look...I know you told me...but I forgot...was it enamel that you used...

and yes...perhaps the trees are probably a little too close for historical accuracy...but I think viewers should be a little forgiving as you can't do the entire field of battle in scale...

I see you ordered the foliage we talked about...the tree line on the right of the fort looks especially nice...is that "sugarbush" and did you order it in a natural color or re-paint it...I definitely wouldn't change a thing...keep the pics coming...this is a really nice piece you're making...

Sorry but I disagree the Conte Romans don't even come close to the sculpts and painting of First Legion Romans Line....Conte does look "too toy like" for me....I'd rather collect First Legion. www.firstlegionltd.com

No need to apologize for disagreeing...as long as you're happy with what you get and what you have to pay for it...that's all that matters...agreed?

I agree with Mike, hey, you like what you like.{sm4}
I have a modest collection on Conte AWI. Now line up the {Conte | Britains (old) | K&C | and FirstLegion} figures side by side; No further discussion is needed.
I will endeavor to get a picture of that this weekend for all to see.

Do I love my Conte AWI – YES! Do I love my K&C AWI – YES! Do I love my First Legion AWI – YES!
Do they all work together … hummmmm …. Not so much.

The Conte and the Britains work well together. The First Legion and the K&C work superb together.
Bottom line is they are my TS’s and I will enjoy all of them.
Have FUN!

Just to clarify a little more, since I wasn't 100% clear. I believe that it is "PERFECTLY FINE" to mix and match the Conte with the First Legion or the K&C with the Britains or any combo that """YOU""" want. I might draw a line a Revell 1/72 scale figures, but that is only me!{sm3}

Hi Larry ,
With all do respects I just don't see it . That being said you are anyone else is more then welcome to mix and match any brand you like . Just as I'm welcome to my opinion that to my eye it just don't work . Like they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder . And like you say "Bottom line is they are my TS’s and I will enjoy all of them" and really isn't that what its all about enjoying our respective collections , Its all about what or doesn't work for the individual . What works for some doesn't work for others . Regards Gebhard

Oh yeah some of the trees and bushes are by Hudson and Allen and they are simply fantastic!!!!

YEP Gebhard, 100% correct.
If you place them side by side, like you have kindly done for me (Thank you for the help) :) then without question you can see the difference in scale, shading and sculpting quality.
But, I seldom place them side by side in a …… ummmm, shelf like, environment…… except for times between scenes. Instead they are scattered amongst diorama material, bushes and tree, hidden inside building and behind walls and such. Then add the wonderful aspect of prospective and lighting and you got a working setup – but only IMHO.
I guess my intention was to say that some folks might feel compelled to only stick with what is technically accurate and others tend to be more inclined to flight of fancy. Neitherway is right,or wrong-- just different

Still when you only have a few K&C AWI militia and you want to do a decent scene, for example, of the retreat of the British from Concord the choices are (A) mix and match or (B) not at all.
Have fun guys!

Joe...very nice set up...it turned out spectacular...great job...I even like where you put the trees...

Looks great!! I especially love the barracks, moat, and tower. I am afraid I have resisted placing my first Roman order for the last day.

Yes, the Roman fort looks great! A very nice effort all around. And the First Legion figures just top it off!
