New Sudan & Afghan Redcoats (1 Viewer)

The matte effect looks very professional though I still prefer them gloss. I hope a good AZW gatling set won't be overlooked in gloss by WB.

And I too missed out on the camel trooper first time round but I will get it this april for sure. Just like the rest of the Sudan figures.

Love the lancer but dont understand why they have done it with a base when the Mounted British Officer 1st Foot Guards hasnt :( its a real shame as im not sure if im going to buy it now???

The Sudan Camel comes that way too. Maybe Ken can tell us the reason for these. It doesn't bother me since I just cover them with ground cover for a scene.

I just assumed the camel came that way due to its legs being quite thin? & it needed extra stability? I do hope the lancer only has one so it matches the camel & any other horse they release doesn't to match the others

I know what you mean Craig, I had the same issue with the Trooping of the Colour. First two horses had no base ( and they don't stand up to well). The 3rd horse and the horses for the carriage have bases and it just throws the whole thing off. (I know this is pre-First Gear)

That was the reason i stopped collecting the trooping the colour range & sold what i did have!!! i really love the new redcoats range & i don't want to pick & choose which sets to buy because of the bases?

Hi Lt,
I tried the Krylon 1311 on a gloss figure and the result was great. My digital camera is broken, otherwise I would post a photograph.
Thanks,
Benjamin

Hi Guys,

These are great looking figures.

However, I need someone to explain to me the resaon so many folks are upset about the base for the horse? I really dont see the issue on this one since its a single figure unlike the other ones discussed. I wonder if this isnt nit picking or do you all really have a big issue with horses having bases?

Good point about the horse bases. Personally, I wish all my mounted figures had bases. The ability for one horseman to fall over and take the whole brigade with him has demonstrated itself over and over with my older Britains and Somerset riders. Bases would prevent this and the resultant damage to figures. Are bases more unrealistic looking? Who cares! They are toy soldiers. -- lancer

I have both but prefer the appearence of the baseless. My troops are kept in a cabinet with glass shelves, so the bases really show up. But again, tehy are just toys.....................

If I could figure out a way to make all of the figures stand without bases I would.
I really think that some figures will never be displayed in the same area and it is OK to have some variation, but I also understand the aesthetic of having consistency.
I struggle with the problem of future horses requiring a base because of leg positions. We have been a bit more restrained with the gloss ranges to minimize the use of a base, but look where we are at in the matte series. In many instances a horse will have all four legs suspended momentarily and I would love to do this... look at any Remington painting!
The camel is a bit top heavy so I think this was a good call, The other one probably could have gone without.
The fearless among you can have at it with a razor saw and remove the base. Any paint damage is easy to touch up.

Well for me I wouldn't call it nick picking I just like to have a bit of continuity in a range so that when all my redcoats are on display in my cabinet they all look like they should be together not some with & some without  I understand that some mounted figures have to have bases like ken said with the camel being top heavy & the rearing up horse from the victoria cross series but just wish they wouldn't give them to some of the horse's that have all four feet on the ground

I don't know yet. The 1st 2009 catalog is expected next month and then there should be release dates provided to the dealers. I am sure you will be adding these to your collection. Have you ordered the Camel set yet?

Randy

I received the Camel set today and it's fantastic. Great job. It will fit in very nicely with my other camels, which are a combination of K & C, Trophy, Tradition (painted by Jeff), Somerset and now Britains!:)

I knew you would like it. :)
