New Work in progress (2 Viewers)

Here is another one of the small 'Scenic Elements' and how it's placement on a 'Wild Grass' base can change the look. Here we took the same item and put it in two different corners with two different metal collectible to give you an idea of how they can be used.

Here we placed a couple of the W. Britain Luftwaffe Feld Division figures for a scale reference.

On this one we placed one of the ACW Napoleons that I patterned for THM from Don Troiani's original, and later W. Britain.

Hi Rob,

All of the backdrops are hand painted here by me and have been sold in the past as part of one of our 'Shelf Scenics'.
We are working on getting a few of them reproduced for sale at a lower price, we just haven't gotten to it yet. I am just wrapping up the Fall collection catalog for W. Britain, so we should get to it soon. I am currently working on another new one as a backdrop to a summer 'Shelf Scenic' but it is really too specific to the village that is in front of it.

A few items like our flat backed hedgerows and 11" X 11" 'Wild Grass' scenic bases are stock items through Treefrog Treasures and you can see them under the Hudson & Allen section of their store.

The items I have shown here are just a sampling of what we will offer at the Fall OTSN show in Chicago.
These one of a kind items are generally available direct, but we rarely build anything the same twice.

We have shown some of the 11" X 28" 'Shelf Scenics' on this Forum in the past and sold them through the fine folks at Treefrog as a 'first come first serve' basis, and we will be offering some again soon in this way.

These smaller 'Scenic Elements' are available direct only and you can feel free to PM or E-Mail us at kaosen056@aol.com with requests.

I hope this answers some of your questions, and thanks again for the interest!
Ken

Thanks Ken,thats very helpful of you.It all looks superb and i look forward to your backdrops when you get a chance to do them,i'll keep my eyes posted on this section of the forum for them!

Best wishes

Rob

I thought I would post a few images of some of the new displays Ericka built for W. Britain. We set some of the W. Britain figures up on these for the images... they are not glued down, just set into our 'Wild Grass' on the diorama.

The first one uses both new and old W. Britain figures... the 'Clear the Way' set from Ertle/W. Britain and Rebs from 1st Gear/W. Britain.

The second one shows only the new products created under the 1st Gear banner.

Ken, just seeing these displayed is worth the trip to Chicago.

Without taking too much time away from your work for Britains and your prep for Chicago, can you please also show a picture of the transition from a "Scenic Element" to the "Wild Grass Base"? And can you disclose the price range for the "Scenic Pieces"?

Lastly, I really wish you would sell the trees individually or in a pack - they are so fantastic, it is hard to believe.

Ken

The scenic work that you and Ericka do is a source of inspiration to us all.

Hi All!
To answer your questions about the scenics and their prices is a little difficult as they are all one of a kind items to date. With that said however we do have an general answer.

The smaller 'Scenic Elements' range in price from $30.00 to $90.00.
The sizes are all a bit different, as are the components that are on them. The least expensive ones usually feature some of our grass product with some bushes, flowers or other elements. The most expensive to date included a small dugout with sandbags and pine trees. The actual footprint also varies with some of he smallest at approximately 4" in diameter and the larger ones at 4" X 11".

The Hedgerow sections are a bit more standard in size in that they are usually around 4 to 5" deep and between 6 to 12" long. These have ranged in price from $35.00 to $95.00.

The 'Shelf Scenics' were designed to fit most standard book cases and have proved very popular for us. The pricing has ranged from $220.00 to $975.00 to date. We will have a fair number again this year, including some with architectural elements. For examples of this you can view 'The Road to Paris' and 'At the Edge of the Village' posted on other threads in this section.
We will have some new buildings to offer on our shelf scenics this year so please stop by if you are coming to the OTSN show.

Please do not overlook our decorated molded urethane foam items such as the 'Urban Debris' and the 'Stone Walls'. Plan on seeing more of these products soon too.

Trees... Yes I love the way they look too and up until recently I personally built every one. Ericka recently started building them and she is doing a marvelous job as you can see.
With that said she mentioned something about leaving me if we had to build too many.
This means that we will be restricting these to items that are purchased with our scenics and bases. Sorry, but for the immediate future this will be the case.
We should be offering a few of the scenic elements with trees on them this year... Carlos got one of them in the room last year and it featured three pine trees and a small emplacement.

I will try to get a few close up pictures sometime this weekend to show the transition from a 'Scenic Element' to a 'Wild Grass' base, including some close enough to show that we have 'soil' between our grass for a more realistic effect.
We have also been asked if we will offer a grass matt like some others have, and the answer is no. I have used these materials for smaller scale static displays and it can look great. I do not like some of the characteristics of its density when using the 1/32nd to 1/28th scale figures with metal bases though. I know it has its uses with some applications and with some treatments I have used it recently.
I would like to remind you that we can build a base in any size needed beyond what is listed here on Treefrog or generally offered by us. feel free to contact us for details and pricing.
Thanks All!
Ken, Ericka and Heidi

Hi Ken, I have a quick question of the upcoming molded urethane foam products, would we perhaps see this building that you built for this ONTC diorama;

Thanks!:)

Wow!
that is a blast from the past times two.

First... I forgot all about that one. It was one of the custom dioramas I built to show off the new (at that time) ONWTC WWII figures that I sculpted while I was still a 40% owner.

Second... The scenic wall and gate was a major re work of one of the foam pieces I did for Conte Collectibles Highlander/Afghan Resin Playsets. There were not too many of these made as I recall. Jim Holt sculpted the figures and I did the scenics.

Hudson & Allen Studio will have several damaged and undamaged items coming your way soon as pre decorated Urethane foam products.
I tend to like the undamaged buildings and structures a little more, I find them pretty useful for multi periods.
What they are, we are keeping under wraps for the short term. We would rather have them available when we unveil them.
We will keep you posted and as always... Thank you very much for your interest and support!

Its very difficult Ken,when you are meant to have the patience of a forty five year old but really have the patience of a seven year old;).I'll try and be good and wait though, these sound great.

Hi Again!
Well we have another one of our custom dioramas finished for a customer and we thought we would share a few images of it with you. It measures 27" X 27" and incorporates many of the W. Britain 18th/19th Century farm out buildings I have patterned.
We placed a few of our Confederates in one corner for scale reference in these shots.
After seeing Mikes great images on the W. Britain section I am tempted to call this one Shenandoah Valley, Fall 1862... at least for this set of pictures.
An officer spots some stragglers and urges them to get back on the road and close up the rear.
DSCN5652.jpg

It is apparent they have been dilly dallying about and he tells the younger men to finish getting dressed and to put their shoes back on.
DSCN5654.jpg

In these views you can see the various scenic items that I patterned for W. Britain including the stone walls, plank fence, wash house and clothesline, smokehouse, well and privy.
We hand built late fall trees and used our H&A 'wild grass', weeds and shrubs, firewood and forest litter to bring it all together.

Looks like the officer finally got the boys back on the road!

Ericka likes the overall shots to show the entire diorama. Here it is in our parlor in front of one of my hand painted back drops so you can see the entire base. This one has the edges finished with some molding, so it can be displayed as a stand alone diorama.
I hope you enjoy these!
All the Best,
Ken
