I wonder if I can ask my US friends about average temps in New York and New Hampshire in Sept and October. Is it still pleasantly mild/warm or does it tend to get considerably cooler.Just knocking about some ideas for a holiday either this or next year and would appreciate any advice.

Also for my friends who live in New York, again purely for fun at the moment,if you had to recommend a classic New York Diner, where would you go?.

Thanks guys

Rob

Rob,

I can't speak to New Hampshire, but in New York it is generally warm, sometimes even hot, in September, one of my favorite times of the year.:)

I am not sure what you call mild but generally September in NH is warm and October is very pleasant. In terms of numbers, September averages highs of 70°F and lows of 45° F with a mean of 58°F. The record high is 94°F (1953) and record low 24°F (1965). October is cooler with average highs of 59°F, lows of 34°F and a mean of 46°F. The record October high is 88°F (1963) and low is 14°F (1969). It generally rains about 4 inches or so for each month.

I don't know any other collectors up here but I would love to see you if you get to New Hampshire; I have several of Mel's movies on DVD and Blu-ray.:D

Very kind of you too Bill, and thanks for the info.It would be a pleasure to watch Mr Gibson with you Bill, actually a lot of my remarks about about him are with tongue very firmly in cheek;)

September/October is the PERFECT time to visit New England and New York.

If you time your trip for early October you'll be able to see the fall leaves turn colors which is a spectacular sight. The color shift starts at the end of Sept in the north and moves south week by week. In W. Mass, Columbus Day is usually the peak leaf color time.

Temps are generally "sweater weather" during the day and cool but comfortable at night.

If you come my way, PM me! I'd love to meet up.

Thanks very much indeed, that really is appreciated.Must say,my post has only been up a few mins and I've already had three offers of help, its one of the things I really like about the American people that I've found on my three previous trips there, open, friendly and welcoming. Thanks again.

Rob if you venture to New Hampshire, let me know as I am only an hour away and would be glad to show you around Boston, old ironsides, bunker hill, the freedom trail, plus some nice watering holes in downtown Boston, we've got plenty of those to visit........;)

We have better diners here in PA, Rob, you should make a little side trip down I-95 and visit Philly or the Lehigh Valley. Best hot dogs in the world, too.

Prost!

Rob,

I do hope you come. I would love to be able to finally meet you. If you come in September, any chance you can make Chicago?

Can I ask another question of my New york friends. My better half is a big fan of films and musicals from the 'Golden age' of Hollywood. One of her faves is 'The Clock' starring Judy Garland and featuring the clock at Grand central station, can anyone tell me if this clock is still there above the main staircase?.

Don't tempt me Jeff,I want to do East coast,West coast and Florida in one holiday, but that might be straining the generosity of the gift element a bit!;)

Not to mention the Toy Soldier budget.

If you are up in the NY area visit the Falls and then pop across to Canada. Two birds with one stone :D The weather is beautiful that time of year and also with the trees turning colour.......magnificent. :)
