News Update May 11th, 2026 - 20th Anniversary Special (5 Viewers)

For once I am lucky to be living in the UK. Ordered my base from Lee at Sheffield Miniatures yesterday.

And so it begins. The Great Game of collecting these figures.

Very Nice but out of my price range and with all those figures, especially when buying so many other items that come out from JJ KC and TG
 
To me these are must have items for my collection including the diorama board and I have placed an on going order for all items and looking forward to getting them.

Depending on whether TF charges shipping it may be cheaper to buy it direct from Sheffield if you live internationally. They have it listed at £240 UK pounds plus £60 shipping.

William Dalrymple, who has written many excellent books on Indian history, has written about this incident in his book The Return of a King: The Battle for Afghanistan, 1839-1842.

I think it is the collecting or the 'hunt' of the figures is psrt of the appeal. Sort of the old ancient Hunter in all of us.
 
Yes ancient hunter for sure. But this is a good point to ask, I assume we are all students/enthusiasts of history? These figures help us re-imagine a 3D time and place
for history we can see, witness first hand, re create a time, colors, and event we either want to know more of, or did not know until now, and that particular time fascinated us?
That's me at least.
 
Signal catastrophe by Patrick Mcrory is an excellent book about the Kabul Retreat. What soldiers in those days went through is unbelievable. Reminds me of when Shelby Foote was asked if there was anything he did not know about the civil war an he replied “ I don’t know how they did it”.
 
Ordered mine, have confirmed i will take the figures, do not know the prices, said to keep me one of each. Bit like ordering a pint at the pub, weird thing is alcohol/drink in a pub/bar, we nearly always ask, know or can see the price of something before we buy, but not in a bar/pub.......

Think will be a popular range, do not know just how many people will collect, but is possibly a range were there be very very few collectors who would want multiples. Unlike if it was a Napoleonic, US Civil War, etc.

Not sure on the board, as i have all my figures on cabinet glass shelves and having a board on a shelf tends to make the shelves below a bit dark. With the base it would make a great tabletop display, cover it with a perspex box to save from dust and people's fingers. I do not know why, but when people ask whether they can look at my TS collection they always want to pick them up! Which has led to me giving the reply "Yes, but you look with your eyes and not your hands, so there is no need to pick them up".

Same as when they see my small collection of Greek fire pots, 10 in total, which were pots filled with flammable liquid, the size of a hand grenade and they were lit, chucked as well, them smash and then we can all guess. They are 700- 900 years old and are in a wall cabinet, yet people think it is quite reasonable to try to open the cabinet and pick them up. Think this should have in the thread things that annoy me.
 
This hobby is knowing no boundaries with pricing these days, and tariff surcharges certainly doesn't help any. I'll wait to see the pricing, but most likely will cherry pick about 8 figures for a smaller vignette and be quite happy with that.
 
I am very excited for the release of these figures but I must admit, after all the speculation about pricing, I'm a little anxious. I prioritize a roof over my head and food and drink over my toy soldier collecting. Besides, my wife isn't as enthusiastic about my hobby as I am.

That is the right approach. I can’t envision ordering or buying anything without knowing the price.

You should get a few replicas and if someone asks to touch one you can say no but i can throw one at you. Not sure about the pyrotechnics. Good manners as the host would dictate you offer you guest an ignited or non ignited one ….. I am only joking. But yes i agree too many touchy people out there
 
I did speak with John this week, but I didn't think to ask about pricing. As an assumption, I would think the figures will be in line with regular releases as far as price.
And yes, Tariffs are still in place, and shipping rates will probably go up due to gas prices. All factors in the cost of anything.

Toy soldier prices are impacted by tariffs and gas prices? Why can't the price just be stated without inserting politics which I thought was forbidden here? Maybe this thread should be deleted. Does this mean prices will be decreased by Treefrog when gas prices go down?
 
I'm requesting that this thread be deleted per forum policy applied to more longstanding threads with thousands of posts because politics has been interjected.

Or as stated:
